Adidas Spezials arrived today. Nothing out of the ordinary but for £40 I just couldn't say no.

I like them, where did you get those for £40?

Any truth to the notion that they're 'just' suede Sambas? Having never had Spezials or traditional Sambas, but having had leather and suede Samba Supers, I have no choice but to refer to you on this matter. Come to think of it, what's the story with the naming? I've seen examples with the model name as 'Special' and others as 'Spezial'.

I might just be a tad bit envious of your collection at the same time... wink

These ones were a listing on Ebay, Got em pretty much as soon as they were listed which was lucky, Im also in some groups on Facebook where people tend to sell to other collectors cheaper than what you would pick up off ebay etc so get alot from there.

The Spezials certainly are similar to the original Samba's but are slightly different, TBH alot of the general designs of Adidas are similar design with just small differences in the cuts of toe pieces or heel tab shape etc, Regarding the naming of Spezial / Special. I have seen this too recently and no-one seems to know the reason why, Even the ones that have "Special" wrote down the side still have the spelling "Handball Spezial" written on the tongue, If you look on the Adidas website at present you can see models with both variations written on the side.

Think I will be buying the Hawaii this friday and the Tahiti in 2 weeks then will give it a rest for a while unless anything exceptional comes up.

This says everything, without seeing them infront of me and despite what your groups on FB say the bay is crawling with fake adidas trainers, out of your 60 pairs if you've purchased mostly from the bay don't be surprised to be buying fakes.

If they're cheaper than usual it's for a reason. Just saying like, from someone who's collecting for over a decade and I don't buy from EBay.

The way you seem to buy hard to find pairs quite reguarly in your size as well would ask questions, just be careful who you buy from.

I would hope someone that buys that many examples of one thing will be able to spot a fake... Wouldn't they??

This is redic, I bought a pair of Spezials which was £60 when new for £40, There not rare or special examples or anything and are effectively 2nd had even though they have not been worn so its hardly bargain of the century is it saving £20, Just i thought they was worth £40 for knocking about it when i don't wanna wear more rare / expensive ones, Most of my pairs are not from Ebay just the odd few and i dont have that many rare pairs but would be willing to bet you not 1 pair i own is fake and would challenge you to prove otherwise.

I always use Liquiproof or Crep Protect, both work about as good as each other from my experience just tend to get any I can find on sale tbh

Chaps,

Need help getting the right colour wax & crème polish for my new shoes. The box says tan, as does the website. To be fair they look quite tan. Saphir don't seem to do a tan though, only light brown? http://www.shoetree-shop.co.uk/colour-saphir/

I assume I want light brown?

(shown with a black & dark brown for colouring).

The boutique range are usually defined by the heels which are shaped to look like a Devils hoof rather than flat like on the cheaper range but there is the odd one in the cheaper range with the hoof heel

Calza what is the name of that shoe on the box where the size label is and what if anything does it have printed on the inside where your heel sits?

Which polish colour for my new JWs?
Hi Calza,

I tend to use Saphir's Cognac shade on my Chestnut and Rosewood brown leathers. This might be a shade too dark for those JWs. I've never had the pale brown polish so can't comment on it. You could always go neutral if you want to keep exactly the sme shade, but it wouldn't colour in scratches of course.

Gents any suggestions for a smart summer shoe for when I'm wearing shorts?

I've seen sperry deck shoes, dubarry loafers, espadrilles I just don't know what to look at? Ideally no more than £100

Calza check if the JW shoes you have are coated leather. Most of them are, certainly in the more expensive range, and very few are natural leather. If they are coated then you don't polish them

They are from the boutique range but 2012 range. Burnished JW shoes normally don't need polishing but you can buy the correct colour polish from any of their stores or their website

Oh really? That's interesting.

So how to I go about shoe care / protecting the leather? Is it just a case of putting some renovator on them every few wears and no more?

Drop them an email through their website. Because I haven't seen them

I think the problem with Adidas in the UK is that it is harder to get hold of some stuff that is a lot more readily available on the continent and cheaper, too. I can get Handball Spezial's in practically any colourway in Sweden for between £30-£55 depending on if they're on sale or not. People were offering £100+ for a pair of green ones a few weeks ago.
