Which model were they? Could you feel a ridge or anything with your hand inside the shoe?
They were Barker Leybourne; quite lovely to look at. They appeared to have a layer over the Dainite stuff, obviously not enough, and I tried Odor Eaters, but to no avail - they just poked and poked in that one point. Leather and a rubber half sole for me, at least for this winter.
Looking at this pic, I would say the welt stiches straight onto the rubber.

This would make the sole much more flexible and I would imagine it was the actual rubber stud pressing through when you walk on it. As a last resort you could have sanded down the stud that was causing you problems.

I've not experienced that before but it's something I will pay attention to next time I'm trying on new shoes.

Thanks.

They are Gaziano & Girling Thorpes. Dainite sole is a definite for the weather we are getting at the minute.

Oh yes, definitely one specific stud and Newton's Third Law.

Possibly the first G&Gs to grace this thread!

I love the G&G styling. It's like a cross between very sleek Italian style and more tratidional english design.

Thanks for the kind words.

I posted my first pair this time last year when I purchased a pair of St. James II so there is at least one more pair. I have another pair on MTO that are due any week now - it has been a long four months.hehe

Does anyone have the Loake Errington boots, any good?

I'm after a tan boot to go with a grey suit. Something slimmer profile than the Burford. And the Errington looks suitable.

Thought I would leave a mini-review here. Out of sheer morbid curiosity, I thought I would buy some Samuel Windsor. My benchmark is mid-range Loakes and Charles Tyrwhitt - the former being excellent, the latter being fit only for the bin after 6 months of wearing 2-3 times a week.

The ones I went for were listed at £35, but also listed in the clearance section for £25 - hence I went for the £25 deal. Shipping at £6 brings them in at £31. Wasn't sure what to expect, most of the bad stuff I could find about the products was from 7-8 years ago, with the recent stuff on Feefo being very good. Knowing that the typical buyer/reviewer was probably used to high street rubbish - this didn't necessarily mean anything.

I have to say, I'm quite impressed. For less than half what you will pay a company like Next for some utter crap, these are far and away superior. Listed as calf leather, and whilst not top grade I can believe it. Not bad at all.

Colour was more chocolate brown than I was expecting, but looks very nice. Detailing, materials and build quality are very good, not quite comparable to Loake mid range stuff but at 1/6 of the price you would be nit-picking to criticise them for this. Most importantly, the fit is good and they are comfortable.

The sole (leather) does seem very stiff and inflexible, will see how this breaks in over a couple of weeks. My one criticism would be that the welt stitching is not very deep set, in fact it sits proud in a few places. For this reason, I would expect the welts to go before I wear a hole in the sole.

Given that this is their 'classic' shoe, I am now intrigued to try out their prestige range. If these don't fall apart within the next fortnight, and I have no reason to believe they will as materials and build seem about on par with the Bertie stuff I have tried in John Lewis, I may just use the £5 discount voucher they sent me and pick up something from the prestige range.

In short, these are definitely worth a punt, and much better than their price-tag would suggest. If they stuck a different name on it and displayed it in John Lewis, you would be paying £80-90 I believe.

As new shoes, those look better than 80% of the brogues appearing on this thread. Lovely colour. It will be interesting to see how they wear. Will they be comfortable, will they look tired quickly etc.

They cost a grand?! Each to their own, as is the spirit of myself in this thread, but I'd take the 35 quid jobbies someone else posted earlier over these. A grand for a pair of shoes? Makes my Gucci loafers seem cheap!

I would probably prefer a couple of pairs of Gucci loafers to one pair of kangaroo boots to be honest. I tried on a crocodile pair a couple of weeks ago. Lovely. Though they were £1800 and I couldn't justify it.
