This ladies and gentlemen is how you do a proper documentary! ;-)

great footage
Sympathetic voice over
No "faux drama"
Intellegent "sound bites" from people who were actually involved at the time

Good on ya BBc4 !!

One of the best programs I've ever seen on television.

Do examples of all the planes showed still exist anywhere in the world?
Any still flying like the mighty Vulcan?

Ahh that was fantastic, BBC4 is by far the best channel on tv.

Having just finished reading 'Empire of the Clouds' about a month ago it was great to see all the footage and but names to faces.

Can also not recommend 'Wings on my sleeve' by Cpt. Eric 'Winkle' Brown enough as well.

Was at the Science Museum yesterday. . The Shorts vertical take-off prototype is in there (minus it's port wing?!). Kestrel prototype and Bedstead also in there. Of course none will ever fly.

Cpt. Eric Brown has also written Wings of the weird & wonderful vol 1 & 2. Which are his experiences of flying loads of experimental stuff in Germany at the end of WWII & also some of his development work at Boscombe Down & Farnborough.
