Hi all, I've been looking for a computer enabled exercise bike to use for amusing myself by winning the Tour De France while having a cardiovascular workout in my living room. I've seen one or two options online for this, but most seem to be over £5000. My budget is around £800.

My biggest bugbear with exercise bikes is usually the seat, which often doesn't go high enough to allow me to have a comfortably straight leg at the bottom of the pedal travel. I'm not tall, either, I'm 5ft8.

Soooo, does anyone have any experience with a computer enabled exercise bike that allows virtual riding, online great but offline only fine too, and can give me some words of wisdom?

Have a look at http://www.tacxvr.com/products/trainer/fortius-mul...

I've got one of these and it's very, very good. I'd almost go as far to say invaluable in the depths of winter.

I paid just over 800 quid for mine, but that doesn't include the PC to plug it all into or the bike that you'll need to bolt onto it.

Awesome piece of kit though - mine gets a proper hammering from October through to April and whilst it wasn't exactly cheap by any standards, after using it last winter I can honestly say I now consider it a bargain.

There are other VR trainers out there (Computrainer is the only real competitor as far as I'm aware), but I can wholeheartedly recommend the Fortius.

Oooh I like the motor driving the wheel on the downhills, that's clever. I've been trying to avoid the additional expense of also getting a bike (I don't have one currently) but that would also solve the seat height worries.

Well, it'll be the way to go as the static setups will be waayyy over your budget . . . have a look at CycleOps or Wattbikes offerings and you'll see what I mean . . . cracking pieces of kit (I'd love either myself), but big bucks!
