Short Car History
Discussion
I thought would post up my short car history (Only 20 yrs old)
First Car - 1979 Austin Mini 1000
Still Own and doing up as a weekend toy restoring with a 1293 turbo as being a first car I had a small shunt in it... It is very modified things such as 4 pot vented brakes, stage 3 head, stainless exhaust, bucket seats, custom headlining/door cards black with orange thread, silly stereo the lot really
Couple rebuild pictures
Second Car - 2001 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Ghia
Now this was a cheap car to have as a daily driver whilst I did the mini up (still doing 2 years later taking longer than expected due to uni) Paid £1000 for this car kept it a year put 10,000 miles on it sold it for £1000 It was a fantastic little car revvy yamaha 1.25 engine and a lovely gearbox. In a way I miss the car as due to the power you could thrash it everywhere and not be speeding too much really was a great little motor In terms of modifications added a better headunit, 6x9's and de tangoed it that was it.
Third Car - 2005 MG ZR 105
Decided wanted a bit more power so with a budget of £1500 looked for something that was cheap to insure and good to drive. Ended up with this little MG paid £1450 with 60k miles and the headgasket just done. Now people slate these cars the headgasket can go but once an uprated one is fitted they are very reliable. I put 14k hard miles on this car over a year and nothing went wrong I then went on to sell it for £50 less than I paid. Really was a great car to drive very chuckable and pretty fast for a 1.4 gearbox was a bit sloppy compared to the fiesta but still a nice improvement. Also fantastic value for money at the time a 6/7yr old car for £1500 also being the facelift personally I thought it was a very good looking car and the interior was much improved compared to the mk1 and more than acceptable for a hatchback.
At santa pod ran a 17.4 quarter not bad for a 1.4
Fourth Car and my current steed - 2003 Clio 172
Picked this up about 2 months ago as could finally afford the insurance with 2yr ncb (Still £1300 mind) and had always wanted one of these cars since a small kid when it first came out and read it in evo magazine. Really is a fantastic car a 2.0 172bhp engine in a car that weighs little over a tonne. Handles beautifully really can chuck it in, has very good brakes as standard and also as said compared to previous cars it seems fecking quick. In terms of modifications I have fitted a Ktec style induction kit (proven 3-4bhp gain on the forums) I also have a set of ebiach 30mm lowering springs as recommended on clio sport and a white-line rear anti roll bar. Too people who have not driven one of these try one the gearbox is not the slickest but apart from that they are a fantastic little car and can even do 40mpg on a run for sub 2k these are a performance bargain
Plans are to keep this clio for around a year and then as I am enjoying it so much upgrade to a megane R26 and stage 1 mod it to 270bhp should be something fun to look forward too. In the meantime plan to get on a few track days in the clio and get the mini finished off [/QUOTE]
