I will suggest the author Robert Crais, he writes very good and easy to read crime novels with a good main character and plenty of action. Well worth a read smile
Sorry to drag up an old thread, but working my way through the Elvis Cole & Joe Pike books - very good indeed. thumbup
Glad you're enjoying them smile

Harlan Coben is another easy read favourite of mine. The Myron Bolitar series.

I've tried one of his and it was hard going and given the one I read if not touch another BUT what would you recommend to start within his huge list of books?

The "master storyteller" can be heavy going some times, particularly as his stories are plot driven with very little in the way of characterisation. Thus if you feel no empathy for the characters, you have to be really interested in the plot to keep turning pages.

That said, I've enjoyed most of them. Try the Devil's Alternative or the Fourth Protocol.

Agree Forsyth can be hard work sometimes but overall I like.

For my easy thriller reads:
Dick Francis
Clive Cussler
Jack Higgins.

But my favourite book is Rainbow 6 by Tom Clancy - can not recommend it enough,

Just remembered another, Michael Marshall Smith (not the sci if books he wrote - although they're good too) or Richard Morgan, again sci if biased but his Kovacs character is up there with Reacher IMHO

Another vote here for Clive Cussler's "Dirk Pitt" series. Very similar to Jack Reacher and just as easy to read.

Rainbow Six is pretty good, but not as good as "Without Remorse"smile

As mentioned on the other thread, watch these, exactly the same story.

There's a new Reacher book out next month

I bought some Barry Eisler for my holiday (All the Rain Parts 1 & 2) Each part consists of 3 novels (I thought I got his name from this thread but can't find it). I am midway through novel 4 (Part 2 book 2) and can throughly recommend them - Excellent writing and some savage humour (and fighting!). Written in the first person which One isn't particularly keen on but the books have been so good that was soon forgotten!

OP - Have you read any Karin Slaughter?

She's written a couple of series (Grant County, Will Trent) however her books work really well as stand-alone stories too.

I have read both. The Morgan books are infinitely superior to Child's and Kovacs would eat Reacher for breakfast! hehe

Geoffrey Household - Rogue Male. A 1930s Reacher, with added historical context.

I've just revisited Mr Francis and read 3 of his finest in less than 3 days. I think that tells you a lot about his writing........ smile

Robert Crais and Harlan Coben have been my favourites of this genre

Coben's Tell No One is a particular favourite, mainly as it's a one off

How anyone reads a series with the same characters one after another mystifies me - they are so formulaic it would bore me senseless

From the main thread - No Mercy, John Gilstrap. 6 in the series so far, well worth reading.

Read a Cussler book on holiday a few weeks ago, was in the hotel library and I fancied soomething light. Well it was certainly light, utter tosh in fact and full of cliches.

Not Dirk Pitt series - "NUMA files" called White Death. Plot full of holes and very predictable with a silly evil plot like a silly 80s James Bond movie.

Mindless fun but won't try him again

Paul finch books are well worth a read. I only discovered him last year after running out of crime books from the big names to read. When I start one of his I can't put it down. Very easy read. Other good authors Jeffrey deaver, Karin slaughter & Jo nesbo
