Spain is a big place with beaches all round it, you need to know that.
Roquetas de Mar in Almeria has some nice hotels almost backing onto Playa Serena though you'd be optimistic to go swimming at the end of September possibly and the resort might be a bit dead or full of pensioners but it's handy for a drive up to Granada and they tend to test prototypes up the Sierra Nevada mountain plus the oter way you have the picturesque Cabo de Gata national park.

I can't help as I always rent villas but of the beach resorts round that region, I find Calpe the best beach and that has plenty of large hotels near the beach but not the mssive super high-rise ones you get in Benidorm.
Note however that Spain is as renowned for rain as it is for sun. Last October we went to Javea and it bucketed down for several days and we got sodden in Terra Mitica in Benidorm who don't seem to think shelter from rain is a priority. Had a few good days though. That said, we had a good week in Mallorca in Septemnber with only one rainy day and beach weather the rest of the week.

RESSE said: These are places north of Alicante - Calpe is lovely and Moraira is very exclusive. You can travel south for an hour to where I am now - La Manga - or you could just google hotels around Alicante itself. Good luck and enjoy yourself

I wouln't say Moraira is exclusive but it's certainly got more expensive. It has a little funfair at the top of the car park if you like dodgems and having your insides shaken to a pulp. It's not far from Calpe. I'm not that enamoured with Javea or Denia TBH.

We were looking at some property in Calpe a while back and it was fairly expensive stuff so I pointed this out to the agent and he said that for the same property in Moraira you would need to add another 40k euros. I sort of gathered that it was quite an expensive area from that. Tbh though I´ve never been there so I think OP should take instruction from those that have, like yourself

I've been going around this area for the last thirty years, when Calpe was a little fishing town on the coast My parents have a villa in Pedruguer inland from Denia and Javea, nice and quiet up there away from the busy coast. For property Moraira is expensive compared to Calpe as it doesn't have the high rise like Calpe does, although its quite built up now itself. I've been out there three times this year and hope to get out again before the end of the year, I love it out there as I can run and cycle in the dry We normally run every other day at about 8am and we drive to Calpe as its nice running along the beach there in the cool air. As the OP is only going for a few days I would stay in Calpe as it has everything within walking distance, beach, bars, shops etc. There are lots of hotels along the beach and I'm sure you can get some cracking deals for them at the moment as they are all struggling. As for weather who knows? If it rains it pours but fingers crossed you should be ok.

Another thumbs up for Calpe, Denia, Javea and Moraira Javea Arenal has a hotel at the end of it overlooking the sea and the entrance to the marina etc www.villanaranjos.comSome nice restaurants and bars to visit all within walking distance of the hotel or take a drive to Moraira for a change of scenery. Some very nice restaurants on the costal road the N322 that runs between Moraira and Calpe too. No high rises or Benidorm style accommodation in Javea or Moraira. Calpe is a busier and more built up area IMO

You could try the Parador in Javea. It's at one end of the main beach (Playa de Arenal), within fairly easy walking distance of all the bars and restaurants on the promenade.
I'm not sure of the star rating, but if it's anything like the other Paradors we have stayed in, it should be pretty good.
