Can some kind person let me know where the thermostat is located as I want to fit this asap. I am led to believe it is where the top radiator hose joins the engine. I am assuming it will be easy for a mechanical numpty to find?

It is as you said where the top radiator hose fits to the engine, just below the fuel rail. You should manage it ok. But remember to fill up the header tank slightly and bleed the radiator to remove any air in the system.

I would be interested know how this goes - I'm seeing some silly read outs on coolish days now as well when stationary. Particularly the bleed bit and how quickly the new stat has to be swapped in.

Just changed the themostat for a 74c one. It hasn't made any difference and the car is still showing between 92 and 104. Could it be the coolant sensor?

Is it showing the same on the dash and the ecu read out? They have different sensors.

What are the symptoms? Is it displaying odd temps but engine & fans seem ok or other way round?

Mine has just started doing the same. I replaced a thermostat a while ago (well, RG did it for me) that was stopping the fans from turning on. This time, the temperature doesn't seem to go about 104, but even when it does, it then drops back to about 94ish quickly afterwards. As far as I know, the fans are working correctly.

It runs at between 91 and 94 on the move but when stationary slowly creeps up. It got to 110 yesterday when I let it idle at home after a run. I switched it off sharpish! I've ordered a new coolant sensor anyway.

Changing the thermostat for a lower temp one won't change the ultimate running temp of the engine, just help heat the oil sooner. Change the sensor, make sure BOTH the fans work and turn on, check for hose leaks, if it's still over 100 regularly , change the radiator! simple. Anything else is a waste of time, spent months working this out with my T350 and it scolded a layer of skin off my face by blowing a hose in my face while at 90C.
