basically is it easy?
I presume the steps are something like:- jack it up, wheels off, disconnect track rod ends disconnect column (does it need removing totally?) undo U bolts and out she comes???
or does the subframe need dropping a bit?
any helpful tips much appreciated
cheers matt

horrid job!
its easier to remove the full column, as it needs a good tug to get it of the splines.
you have to drop the frame down, so you need to undo the rear mounts and the top mounts (it should tip on the front ones, or loosen them if its solid mounted)
you may find it easier to undo the top engine steady and remove the shockers (if they are lowered height) to get the frame to drop down
the more space you can make, the easier the job is

thanks, thought it would get more complicated
will have to support it off the body rather than under the subframe then

Changed the steering rack not too long ago on my mini... it was quite a bad job to have to do so good luck to you. I would also recommend that you have a good look at the splines on the end of the steering column. I changed my steering rack and found that the splines on the column were also worn... Good to get it all done at once. Best of luck.
Dave.

Don't forget that the exhaust also gets in the way.

cone said: Split cowl rad they are just torture, one of the best improvements ever made to a mini was getting rid of the shroud on the inner wing and going over to single piece cowls
