Considering starting to commute by bike. Just wondering how long most people's commute is and what sort of terrain? Also do you do it every day or a few days a week?

4 days a week most of the time so I can fit in other training and some recovery in between.

13.7 miles to work (according to Strava) takes about 45 minutes and an average speed of 17mph. With some decent climbs thrown in and a few nice straights. Not enough downhill sections for my liking

6 miles, a couple of hills but mainly flat, zones 1 & 2 of tube map - 20/25 depending on traffic lights.

Been doing too much running lately, but generally I do 2 x week, 12 miles in and 24 home. Need to drive the other days to pick the kids up. The route in is hateful on a bike hence the extension home!

25 each way. Try and do 4 legs a week (Monday in, Tuesday home, wed rest, thurs in, Friday home), but life rarely works like that so often it's doing it both ways twice over three days. Sometimes stick a lap of Richmond park in on the way home (extra 20 mins).
Takes longer than the train once you include showering and faffing about, but it's not wasted time like the train is!
Moving soon which will make it about 17-19 miles, aiming to do like okgo.

19.5 miles there, 6 miles back as I get the train part way. Small ups and downs meaning fairly flat overall.

Just over 7 miles on the way in, 80% offroad, 35mins@avg 12mph-ish on a 6" travel bike. Bit less mileage on the way home and 95% offroad due to army ranges being open after 4:30pm. Longer and further if I go for a bit of a ride rather than take the direct route!

35 miles total. (Home to work that is)
Bike between 8 miles or 14 miles depending which station I cycle to. The general pattern is basically flat, though there is more decent than ascent. Usually ave around 18mph. 4 miles after from station to centre of brum. Basically flat.
Return leg the same, but the general pattern is margainally uphill, with a cat 5 climb to finish. 16 mph or thereabouts. The ride through brum is 3.5 miles (due to various 1 way systems) Couple of times a week if I can.

25 miles each way. Pretty flat though so not particularly hard going. On average I do it twice a week.

4.6 miles in 16:45 this morning. (The start of "Operation Get-it-under-15-mins.")
A snappier title may be called for...
(Takes a bit less time to get the Tube, due to not needing a shower.)

8km in direct route 25 mins. 25-30km usual return route via Ashton Court, 50 acre, Leigh Woods. Consider myself very lucky to have such amazing trails on a city doorstep

15km with two relatively steep (10%+) hills, average just around 28kph on my MTB. Do it twice a week in winter, maybe 3 times in summer.

Just under 10miles each way. Slight up hill there, down hill home.
However, I only do it when I am in the office for a few consecutive days so I can drop off clothes, laptop etc. This isn't that often unfortunately.

Wife's commute is ~ 9 miles by bike. She's doing it three days a week. I'm doing it with her. I work from home, so my commute is now 18 miles twice a day three days a week and half a dozen paces the rest of the time
