What the hell causes these bds and how do you get rid?!

Have had a horrible round white ulcer inside my lower lip (just where my teeth rub every time I move my mouth) for a week now and no amount of Bonjela (crap) seems to help.

Had small, non-painful ones before that have just gone within a few days but never a hanger-oner like this. Just won't go away.

Any tips? Magic potions? Going to get some Anbesol today as been told this is a better pain-reliever than Bonjela.

I used to have the same problems, never found Bonjela did much. Someone advised Listerine or a strong mouthwash every night, and that did the trick. Not had an ulcer since..

Anbesol does work much better - it numbs the pain effectively.

This will make people go wobble but I bite them off. Your mouth heals crazily quickly so you once you've bitten it off it doesnt take long for the pain to stop and for it to heal.

Sounds worse than it is, biting it off actually hurts less than the ulcer itself!

There are many causes, stress. hormones, iron deficiency, Vitamin B12 deficiency, even giving up smoking can cause them.

When hubby and I lived 'down south' we were both plagued with these things. Everyone we worked with suffered with them too. Since moving 'up north' we haven't had ONE. A quick survey with colleagues, and no-one seems to get them. I have convinced myself that it is either less stressful up here, or, there was something in the water down there. Not as daft as it sounds.

If you suffer from chronic (repeated) mouth ulcers get a blood test done; as a previous poster has mentioned there can be a number of causes.

Used to get ulcers a lot, not as bad now but still get the odd big one!
I've tried just about everything but nothing comes close as oral medic.
It stings like hell to put on but after a few minutes the pain is totally away and lasts a day or two, by that time said ulcer is normally healing.
Tesco sell it along with chemists, £8 for 2 applications.
Anbesol gel is also not too bad but only for short term relief.

I get them pretty bad. For me its used as a way of telling me I need leave before I burn out. I get them when I am at the point of 'fraggling'. Its odd really how I ALWAYS get one if im coming close to leave if I havent had any time off. Oh and nothing gets rid of them better than lots of sleep and destressing!
