Right any idea will now be tried no matter how ridiculous because this is doing my fking head in!!! Lost pretty much all hearing in my left ear after swimming the other night and it still hasn't come back. Been the Dr's this morning and all he has to say was it'll come out eventually... thanks for that, £100,000 a year well earnt there, especially as it seems to be his solution for everything.

Anyone have any ideas that actually work, tried cotton buds to dry it out, got some stuff from the pharmacy that will apparently work, that's done chuff all, holding my nose and blowing, after searching the only thing I seem to have left is til my head and jump up and down ffs!

Any other ideas chaps? The only thing I hear is a constant bloody ringing at the moment and I'm about to have a serious breakdown and go on a murderous rampage.

Roll-up fag filter and a pair of tweezers - grip filter with tweezers and then insert filter in to ear and wiggle it around.

I've just suffered 4 weeks of this. Did the doc look in your ears ? Would advise against using cotton buds as you can damage the membranes in your ears apparently. Mine was apparently due to a build up of wax which had shifted around. I have been using Otex and a sodium bicarbonate ear drop solution for the last four weeks and then moving on to just olive oil. Last time I had this 2 weeks of using drops sorted it but not this time. Finally went and had my ears 'irrigated' by a nurse last Thursday and it was pure heaven after 4 weeks of hardly being able to hear anything.

I also found I got some relief from putting a damp flannel in the microwave for a few seconds and then holding it against my ear. Also yawning, hiccupping and burping seemed to help hehe.

He checked this morning, nothing in there (some would argue at all) that's causing any blockage all very clear apparently.

I had this once after some cliff jumping/swimming in the sea.
Drove me mental for about 3 days until suddenly a whole load of seawater fell out of my nose - which was trapped in my sinus.

I wonder if the crappy damp weather earlier this year, plus pollen problems has had anything to do with ear problems. I had vague congested sinus/throat for a couple of months, plus occasional "vertigo" and decided to see the GP about it. Strangely enough, on the day before I was due to see him, my hearing started to go in both ears. Within 48 hrs I was probably down to 50% hearing ability.

TL;DR. He had a look and said he could see some inflammation, gave me drops which didn't work very well. Hearing dropped to about 20% in a week, got emergency appointment, lady GP looked in my throat and gave me some standard antibiotics. Said it would take about 3 weeks. She was about right. It took about a week for hearing to start to return. 2 weeks after that to be more or less normal.

Basically the Eustachian tubes which connect the inner ear and throat were blocked and gunged up. Try closing your nostrls and blowing gently, then swallowing. If you cant hear any noise as the pressure equalises, you could have an infection.

If you don't get any joy, go back. That's what they are paid for.

Have you tried tilting your head and jumping up and down?

Not sure what you expected the doc to do. He looked in your ear, which is healthy and not gummed up so clearly the water/blockage is in your sinus. I suppose he could have leant you forwards and bashed a rubber mallet on the back of your head, but then you'd be on here whinging about that. :shrugs:

This happened to me on holiday this year...on the 2nd day!. Went swimming, came out and my right ear seemed blocked. Tried everything, relentless cleaning (lots of wax came out) olive oil, ear drops, everything. In the end I gave up and spent 8 days with a blocked ear...it wasn't all bad, meant I could only half hear my wifes moaning!.

The fight home sorted it out, I'm guessing it was the pressure in the cabin but still very annoying.

Had this happen to a friend, went to see a doctor, who stuck a syringe in hes ear and pumped out the water.
If it's not done then it could get infected.

Ive had this when surfing. I now put olive oil in my ears once a week to keep the wax moist. Never put anything in your ear larger than your little finger, can do serious damage. I ended up with an ear infection. After a number of visits and lots of different types of antibiotics, they finaly gave gave me the correct antibiotics and the swelling in my ear calmed down and I could hear!!! Fecking horrible...

Also try sleeping on the blocked ear side.
