1993 Nissan Micra K10
Discussion
Not the most "pistonhead" car but I thought i'd start a topic about this little beast.
Last month I changed my job, which means I will have to commute through the upcoming winter. My Capri needs some major work doing over the winter and the idea of running a motorbike through snow and ice is silly. (Did it once, one of the most unpleasant 30 minutes of my life). So I have the bike up for sale and in the meantime I have bought this beauty for £300. It's a 1993 Nissan Micra 1.2L "Chic".
It belonged to an old dear who has had it from new, only used it for the Sunday church service and the occasional trip to the bingo hall. Which means it has only done 31,000 miles in 19 years! Unfortunately it also looked as if it hasn't seen a hoover for 19 years. I spend well over an hour hoovering the interior and boot which were covered in mud, leaves, fluff, old sweetie wrappers you name it. After a T-cut and a polish it doesn't look too bad.
It needs a few things doing to it. Mainly the boot struts which caused minor concussion when they failed on me in Tesco's car park and the tracking is laughably out which results in some wayward steering at speed. Oh and the radio is buggered, but apart from that it's not too bad for £300!

What's the capri need doing?
Engine is going to need stripped and decoked. The injectors are buggered and leaking causing running problems such as it doesnt start when hot and it only runs on 4 cylinders when started from cold. It has a Cobra immobiliser fitted to it which is being very temperamental. I believe that the fuel pump should run quickly before starting the engine when the ignition is turned but the immobiliser seems to stop this happening. Not too sure on that one, I know my mates Sierra Sapphire fuel pump goes before start up but im not sure Capri's are supposed to. Plus it's got a Capri Club exhaust on it which is getting very tatty, also it sounds too tinny for me, especially at around 3000 rpm when the engine comes on song. Going to go for a full Janspeed system, just debating whether to go for the 2 or 3 inch pipe!DouggyMc said:

Pps, put a 24v in it.

Injection pump is supposed to prime before turning over, mine's always done it. You can use a pump off an xr4 or an xr3i as well.

Ah thanks for that, I will probably rip the dam alarm out it's been nothing but trouble since I bought the car. It's got a 2" pipe on it now which suits it. Thinking about it now 3" is a bit too "90's council estate look" for me. I like the idea of the 24v however if I fancied an engine change I think I would go for an essex from a 3.0. Bit of a backwards step I know but I am really taken with that engine!Oh and go for the 2" pipes, the 3" is vulgar on them now.

Brilliantly simple. It is amazing how many K10s are still creeping around long after a lot of similar aged cars have been scrapped.
Had a scrap one to learn to drive in around the yard (a 1.0), beautifully simple cars, majority of the pipework was swapped to keep my mates 1.2 on the road (we just duct taped the perished pipes and put them on mine).Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
