The question I am interested in is how did the Off duty Policeman get a transcript of the gate police records?

He sent a word for word account that matched the gate police records so how did he get that? did they give it to him or somebody higher up? He didn't witness it , he wasn't there.
I'm sure the Police have an established procedure they follow when fitting someone up. I suppose we could ask one of the BiB on here...

Isn't the procedure that senior plod write all the statements and witness accounts and then just get minor plod to sign them - that seems to be what happened at Hillsbrough and Orgreave.

Why does everyone go on about the cost? The policemen are already employed the lights are on and the rents being paid? What extra cost are we suffering?

Redistribution of 30 officers from other duties yes but additional costs?

I apologise if I'm being a simpleton.

u can guarentee there will be umpteen inquiries set up after this and if the bbc one that lasted a month or 2 at £2 million is anything to go by..

those 30 officers would need to be covered i presume with overtime from others etc

bet lawyers etc are getting involved

It's high time Mitchell was brought to task by parliament. It's time for him to state the truth. He's been hiding behind what he says he 'didn't say' for far too long.

A backhanded put down? hehe

What an idiot. The story was dead and he would have been brought back as cabinet (or shadow) minister before long. Why did he risk raking the issue up again by taking such legal action?

Well that didn't go as he would have wanted.

Expensive I should imagine.

I have the feeling that he was pushed into the challenge by the government.

As you say, if he had just let it lie, and not repeat that the officer lied, everything would have settled within months. This, and previous, governments have shown a degree of forgiveness for much worse. As he stated at the time, the PC accepted the apology. (Not that he could have done anything else.) Incident over.

£200k being demanded as a downpayment for costs and damages by the Sun and the officer. £1m in costs alone.

A judicial slap. Basically "this officer is too thick to make this up".

As I said on another thread, many officers on duty at party political conferences have had far worse. I've been told of assaults on officers, mainly just pushing, mainly when drunk, which were ignored after apologies - some of them, a minority I assume, nearly sincere.

Just heard the total cost to Mitchell is estimated at £2 - 3 million.

It all ads up, doesn't it?

And to think of the times it's suggested in these fora that people could or should go to Court to settle disputes...
