Just had a random idea...

need a coffee table for my new apartment in London, so thought i would source an old 360 alloys wheel, and place a sheet of toughened glass over the top. Would be pretty cool i think.

Where would be the best place to source an old alloy? Obviously one thats porous or unuseable would be perfect.

How much would i have to pay for one of these though?

Crazy idea? Or Genius at work?

I make tables out of alloy wheels. I use old ones which are too buckled to use as a wheel but not too noticeable as a table. I don’t know where you can get a 360 wheel – maybe go and ask at a Ferrari garage, they must replace damaged wheels for customers and probably just throw the old ones away.

Don’t bother with toughened glass, it’s expensive and not necessary for such a small table. Use laminated glass, it’s safe enough and strong enough. If the edge is bevelled off properly you will not see the lamination without looking very, very closely.

Don't let that get in the way for such an offer Rico.
It probably won't cost that much in postage. Failing that Im sure there will be a meet halfway soon.

Edited: The reason Im following this is because I think its a cracking idea but something that would never happen in my house. If I made one it would be restricted to the garage! Make sure you post some pics of it Rico.

Dusty,

The new flat is empty, so i'm having to buy/blag/nick furniture anyway. So its a nice new start so i thought i'd go for something different.

Problem is i can't really afford to spend tonnes on just a coffee table - thus why i'm looking for an alloy thats no longer road-useable. Although i might just treat myself to a Gallardo alloy so we'll see what happens.

I have a Griff space saver that has never been used.
Would make more of a small step than a coffee table though!

Sadly as the Gallardo rims were in pristine condition I can't really justify the price for a coffee table.

However, if anyone out there is looking for a set, give jon an email as they are a good price

So... the hunt continues for a rim...

The place I bought them from will split sets I'll dig out the invoice in case you are wanting it quicker

or I found this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10380&item=2487120347&rd=1

nb - just spoke to the suppliers of the rims and they don't have any in stock, but they have a bargain 20"x10" deep dish BMW x5 rim you can have for £100

just ring them on 08702 404171

I'll try for the F50 wheel tonight, but i would imagine the reserve is a lot higher than what it currently is at.

Also, i'd prefer to keep to Ferrari or Lambo wheels. The X5 wheel, although interesting, doesn't have the specialness of the Ferrari ones

Kensington, balaclava, 3- bricks, tyre wrench, suitable getaway car should do the trick

I saw a couple of wheels coming off a 360 at Verdis Rico, but they really were very, very shagged. Might be worth a ring round the independents? I believe the main dealers cut them in half to prevent them being recycled, so they'll be in short supply. What about one of the older models- they've got pretty distinctive wheels. The other possibility is the Challenge racing teams- they must get through a few sets and you could maybe get them with the slicks still on for a bit of racing interest too. Have to say I prefer the Challenge rims to the usual road wheels.

A guy on FerrariChat has PMd me saying he may have access to a few.. so i'll let you know mate

Kevin - i've emailed Verdis to ask but haven't heard back. I also like the Challenge wheels, so i'll keep an eye out for those too.

I'm in no real rush so i'm just waiting for a good price and a nice wheel

Obviously i'd be very grateful if anyone hears of any they could email me via my profile or post in this thread.
