What colour is my Griff?
Discussion
Trying to work out the true colour of my Griff is proving to be a bit of a challenge!
The handbook says Triumph Yellow (Lightning Yellow ?), a dealers ad when it was sold previously says Giallo Fly Yellow and the Chassis plate is engraved with Body Code R1487, which according to the paint code lists on here show that as Aston Martin Mendip Blue, i think I`ll rule out that option though.
Can anyone offer any words of wisdom that may lead me in the right direction? and would I be right in thinking that the Triumph Yellow is actually a Triumph motorcycle rather than car colour?
Thanks

Is it possible that the plate may be right and the car has had a colour change? [looks very nice in yellow]
Anything`s possible but the fact that the handbook says Triumph Yellow suggests that the plate may be wrong. If it has had a colour change then its been done very well and at extreme cost because all the carpets are edged in yellow, stitching on upholstery is yellow and so on.ncs said:
Well whatever it is it certainly doesnt look like the colour you mentioned when we last met...change of plans Dave?

I noticed that the original ad disappeared so looked further afieldNick
Then I discovered that Yellow ones were faster, so....
Agreed with you about the interior as well, this ones dark blue with yellow piping and dials etc
If you remind me where the Woodman is I reckon I may get there one Sunday very soon

Giallo Fly Yellow is actually a Porsche Yellow, even though its the fastest colour.
I agree it looks as if it has had a complete respray if the code doesnt match.

I was always led to believe that Giallo Fly was a Ferrari colour, but happy to stand corrected and bow down to your superior knowledgeI agree it looks as if it has had a complete respray if the code doesnt match.

Try Surface and Design, they may have your build records and could at least confirm the colour change.
Thanks for the advise, I have e mailed them and asked. In the meantime I have had even closer looks and remain convinced that it has not been repainted.
I have had a reply from Surface & Design who sadly dont have build records for my car. What they do say, however, is that Triumph Lightning Yellow code is R1748, very similar to the R1487 on my chassis plate. So it would appear that either a simple typo at Bristol Avenue or a dyslexic engraver doing the plates that day.
Surface & Design, very helpful, thanks

Same here, so I did some Googling and having spent 10 mins. on the Internet it seems it is, having been in use on Ferraris as a colour with that specific name since the late 50s. Giallo is of course Italian for Yellow while fly may be an acronym (no one seems certain) or an oblique reference to a bumble bee i.e. bumble bee yellow.
