Hi all,
I'm in the early stages of building a clio for tin tops, either BARC or CSCC and have afew questions, Most stuff is pretty straight forward and the blue book isnt the best for school drop outs, LOL,

My first question is about the fuel tank,
In the blue book it says it needs to be FIA approved, that means big bucks and when I was running stockhatch they would allow a ally single skin fuel tank under the car with the filler neck iside with a sealed flap over the top, is this the case for tintops?
My plan would be to have a cylindrical tank in the spare wheel well and seal this in with a cover.

Seats, simple one, do these need to be in date for BARC or CSCC? I have a really good seat and has only just expired but feel comfortable with it.

Many thanks
Dave

No to the seats being in date, not needed and that sounds exactly how my golf fuel tank was for cscc tintops, good luck.

Hi I race in the BARC SE tintops. You will probably be ok with the standard car's fuel tank as long as its metal and has a rollover valve on the filler (most modern cars do). If the tank is exposed underneath the car then you will need an alloy guard for it. If your going to put it inside the car then it needs to be completely sealed from the rest of the cockpit (including filler).

Seats just need to be FIA approved - date is not important for UK MSA club racing.

Best thing i ever did was hang around a few club paddocks before building my cars, and look over and chat to the drivers - we're all generally friendly types smile Feel free to give me a shout if you need any advice on the BARC TinTops

Is the wheel well part of the car's crumple zone? People running into the back of you, or you spinning and reversing at speed into the armco would make me think twice about placing it there.

I know people do; I'm just saying...

You don't even need the seat to be FIA spec for MSA club racing - e.g. my Kirkey seat or 'bag' seats in Caterfields... A sensible man might have one though! And don't take this as me telling you to use a standard road seat...

Thanks guys,

I'll be at the rockingham round of BARC tintops on the 6th of october so want to have a shifty around the paddock and have a chat with some people,

Fuel tank is plastic so may have to look into getting something made up if the plastic tank is not allowed,, If it is then I will have a swirl pot fitted with additional pump.

As soon as I posted about putting the tank in the wheel well I realised how stupid that would be so that plan has been scrapped due to the risk of being hit up the back or backwards into the wall.
