How you finding things in AUH?

Can't help much other than to check with the major hire company's located in and around the airport. Also check with the same on-line and see if you can better it.

There are many "car hire" places, but may not be to your liking and the come-backs may be hurtful i.e. claims that you damaged the vehicle when you did not etc.

I went with Hertz in the end after searching and searching, yes some of the Sharjah based companies were 50dhs a month less but if anything happened I doubt they would be overly keen to help out.

Depends on the car you want naturally, ive just gone with a Corrolla which is doing the job and easy enough to dump in the parking spaces you find in and around the city. I would say its economical but thats the wrong thing to say in the UAE!!

Will be staying with mine till Jan/Feb then will look to buy something, preferably tasty.

Hi mate,

I would suggest giving Diamondlease a call, you should be able to get in a Lancer from 1,600 a month. They have higher spec lancers (I had a 2.0l for a while) for around 2,00 to 2,400.

Also, National had some focus' for hire, althouogh they werent cheap and autos only so slow as ste. I would go with the lancer for best value.

I got mine from SZR branch of Dimaondlease: 043434330

ITs all going well, just trying to get my VISA done with the company. but they have left me to sort medical and emirates ID myself, which has been a little annoying. But so far have managed to sort stuff out myself.

I have only made one cultural f.. up in the office so far, but i am sure many more will follow.

I am in a hotel in the Tourist Club Area at the moment, considering getting a 2 bed apartment in Sky Tower. So will need a car to get to work as i do not want to rely on Taxis to much.

Basically I said the lancer was crap and I would take any thing better, so got a renualt fluence for 1900 aed a month from dollar, fund it best to walk in.

Sky tower is okay at least you have a waitrose in the basement and a big pool etc, lots of places I would not live after being involved in trying and sort out the piss poor build quality (avoid any new villas on islands).

The build quality is shocking at most of the apartments i have seen so far! I am looking a 1-2 per day and they all have problems. I looked at one today and the worktop was split Nearly in half due to water damage!

Getting somewhere decent is hard but i have another 28 days in the hotel!

Edited after a typo of to many free drinks at the hotel welcoming party!

As mentioned above try Diamond Lease. I had a Lancer with them for a few months for 2015 dib dab doos a month (a 2.0 new shape not the 1.6 so at least it would shift a wee bit!).

Dont mention the build on some places, think I viewed about 15-18 places and some were shocking, really shocking! Some however were actually very decent. My hotel time is very limited so had to find somewher, least you have the time to choose. you will view one that stands out from the rest so just go for that when it happens, then hope they dont rent it out for more from under you once you have agreed on it!!!

When I tried them last month on the new shape 2.0 one they wanted about 3800 a month I think it was! Only the old deathbox 1.3 was anywhere near 2000 a month.

i've said this before but the ford figo is the pick of the runts, and available for 1400 a month with national car hire. the focus is also miles better than it's competitors by virtuie of being able to corner properly. the oriental offerings all suffer from extreme tyre squeal and understeer.

Try Anoop John on (050) 5051790. I only got mine in July and put it back at the start of this month.

Wow that what you get for rushing a reply. i only have 28 days, but i can not do anything until i get my VISA stamped, but they seems to be a disaster. AS another guy has had his emirates ID refused and hence can not get his VISA sorted! So he is now panicing a little!

eh? AFAIK you can't get ID without a residency visa so no wonder it was refused.

being asked to sort your own visa is ridiculous, i thought you were working for the government? my visa was done and dusted within 2 weeks. you can rent a place without one though, jason did just that.

This.

I nearly killed myself having to do my own medical, cannot imagine doing the whole visa process on my own, that's a farce.

yep we are, and now finding out that a few things we are having to pay are now paid for by the department. So far i have paid for Medical (250AED), Emirates ID (370AED for Public sector not the 270AED for private sector)

I am having to become an Expert on the VISA process over night!

you now cant get a VISA without emirates ID registration reciept

http://www.abudhabi.ae/egovPoolPortal_WAR/appmanag...

But what i will say is that you can go to Al Raia Typing centre oposite Al Wadha Mall for Emirates ID typing, pay your fee. Then you can go to Khalifa hospital for medical screening. Do the medical stuff, turn roght outside the medical centre walk around the corner of the building to a Emirates ID Processing office, take you finger, palm, thumb and side of hand print, reitna scan and photo.

Khalifa Hospital screening centre is really quiet between 7.30 and 8.00 am.

Return 2 days later for medical certificate.

Then hand over to the company
  • Passport
  • Entry Visa
  • Medical Certificate
  • 8 Passport Photos (on a white background) Its got to be white not cream!
  • Medical insurance Card or cirtificate
  • 100AED Urgen processing fee
  • then the company will process the VISA application for you!
Let just say this week has been stressful!

roll on 3.30 finish work. Can wait to relax on Friday and of course the boredom! Absolutely no social life at all many of the people i work with live in Dubai and get the free bus to work.

wow!

to put it into context i work for a private sector company with no local partner [free zone].

i turned up at the airport and queued for the visa paperwork. gave that and my passport to HR as they already had photos.

2 days later i went for my medical. took 20mins including driving there and back.

3 weeks later my passport and visa were given back to me, the same afternoon i went for my driving licence.

all i had to do was emirates ID and was given the morning off to do it. i am having to get a new driving licence next week [lost the original] and am dreading it.

Mine took the best part of 6 hours to get. Listen to the RTA not the people you work with! Everywhere I was taken the place had shut down was a right chew on.

The municipality building on sheikh zayed road was really easy however, but you do need to take all the supporting papers, i.e eye test etc in with you, if you have all that correct and copies of everything it wont take long.

I think that might have changed, they wernt happy with me at the company as I did my medical and visa application before applying for the ID, was told I should have done that first and it would delay things as I did it backwards??
