Water based gloss paints are less prone to yellowing than the oil based.

If you prefer a softer sheen I find Satinwood yellows less than gloss paint, not quite such an arse to use either.

All oil based paints will yellow over time, water based will stay White, but doesn't shine as well, nor does it wear as well as oil based paints.

Oil based gloss paints are finished. Due to the EU sticking their noses in the amount of chemicals were reduced in a big way, hence yellowing whites.

Water based is the future. It isn't as hard wearing. You won't get the same finish. But it does remain white!

I've used Johnstones Aqua undercoat/gloss.

Unless you are painting over smoke-stained yellow paint. Then water based is pants /VOE

Satin wood. So much easier to use and doesn't show up every blemish like gloss

In my experience this stuff has terrible covering power. Even on primed and under coated fresh wood it's almost impossible to get an even finish without three or four coats.
