They only changed the rears, even later cars should have alloy front uprights.

According to this, November 1999: http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Elise_model_history#Elise_...

In reality though I'm not sure there was a hard cut off date and some cars won't have their original uprights anymore - my early 1998 car had the alloy uprights replaced with new steel ones this year due to corrosion.

Thanks Scuffers and Thorburn.

I'm thinking 2000 S1 with 12 spoke wheels etc.?

I now have a late S1 (2000), and it does have steel rear uprights.

Have a look.

Try a magnet.

Google both, they look quite different.

Mine had the later wheels, fibreglass boot etc, but lots of parts off early cars like alloy uprights.

As with anything Lotus, they seemed to use whatever they had to hand at the time.

I can believe the mix and match would be going on around that time of production.

I don't need a magnet, mine has the spindly type. Fronts are extruded type, but I guess all S1s had those factory fitted?
