Can anyone recommend a decent pub somewhere around the Tamworth/Burton/Sutton/Nuneaton area please?

Nothing flash, just decent pub food and somewhere with a bit of character rather than a 2 for a tenner place.

The Greyhound in Bedworth (edge of Coventry) is good. Beside the junction of Coventry and Oxford canals.

Wasn't there a sticky thread some time ago that collected "good places to eat" from all over the PH geography?

Officially Hawkesbury Junction, but known (from the canal side anyway) as Sutton's Stop.

Thanks, just looking at that list now. The White Lion looks like an option as it looks like a pub with food rather than a restaurant IYSWIM.

Bull & Butcher in Corley used to be good. Haven't been for a couple of years due to work schedules, mind, but it had been a regular weekday venue for a few years before that.

ETA - looking at the reviews it does look like it's gone down quite a bit

I knew that, but thought it would make more sense to a non-boater to give a longer description...

The green man at Middleton, or the Whittington arms. Both just a couple of miles out of tamworth and Sutton

Eta: Good food, reasonably priced, good service, well designed interiors keeping the character. Both are pubs and restaurants do you can go to eat or just have a drink.

Or the Green Man, Clifton Campville or if you want something closer to Burton try the Middle Bell at Barton under Needwood.

The Cock Inn in Wishaw - on the edge of Sutton. Great little spot.

Funnily enough, there's The Cock Inn just off the A5 which is also a very cosy place with nice food.

Are you thinking of the Cock Inn in Sibson? I was going to suggest there. Another favourite of mine is the Pheasant at Withybrook, south of Nuneaton.

I've also heard good thing about the pub at Sutton Stop.

Cock at Wishaw is good but can be pricey, not really pub grub. The Odd Inn at Snarestone used to be pretty good, a bit different but a bit out of the way, which is why I haven't been there for a while.

Bit late, but any of these are very good

I only know the Orange Tree personally, but know the format and know of the guy who runs them, so wouldnt have any worries about the others being up to the same standard.
