Correct me if I am wrong (as I am very likely to be) but I was always taught that a perpetual motion machine would need to ability to covert energy into movement and back to energy again with 100% efficiency. In this case the movement of the ball would be suffering from friction loss via the air and the rails, even if those loses are very small in terms of % lost, its still a loss and would eventually run out of energy and therefore not be perpetual motion.

Perpetual motion it isn't it might be seriously efficient so the first nudge gives it enough energy to run for long enough the average observer gets bored and wanders off before it stops moving, but it will stop, as it is always loosing energy to something.

No

one of two things will happen- either all the entropy will be evenly distributed, in which case everything stops. or it massively contracts, in which case everything ends.

whatever happens, its not going to be perpetual.

At least thats what current physics shows us.

Yeah, I know, I was just trying to add to the story being generated. Perpetual motion is not possible based on physics as we know it!
