Anyone able to advise the safest place to buy a mini 0803? Is amazon uk the best as joovuu seem to have a 30 return policy!
Anyone got a sensible answer to this question?

Is the 0803 the 'best' dash camera? Would appreciate advice, thanks.

Bought the 0801 a couple weeks ago. I got it from Amazon. Worth the £4 premium over a ebay seller in China for me

I've had similar with an 0803, I put it down to starting the car at the same time as powering up the camera, causing a blip in the power to it. I've made sure to always either let the camera get past the splash screen, then crank the car over, or crank the car first before switching on the camera, ever since, and it's behaved itself fine.
Hi, thank you for that, yes that sounds possible. Seeing as the screens were all frozen and misted up, I wonder now also whether I was too keen to hit the HRW and front blower at the same time, maybe that also caused a blip in the power!

The 0803 has been replaced by the 0805 dash cam, so will be very interesting to see what TechMoan on YouTube has to say about the 0805.

I'm still well pleased with the quality of the more basic non GPS 0801 dash cam which I purchased in September. It's perfectly adequate for use in the daytime. I purchased it using the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IKEVSOU This particular dash cam is being sold by EPRANCE and fulfilled by Amazon, rather than direct from China, so delivery is fast, and I figured there was less chance of being sold a fake.

Alternatively try this seller on Ebay whom has an excellent reputation: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/COMBI-LTD/Car-Camera-/_i....

You can download a few one minute video clips taken from my 0801 and decide for yourselves whether the quality is good enough, links shown below:

https://mega.co.nz/#!4MZUEbqZ!-Z5Vz5lUhqMu4p-N2QH3...

https://mega.co.nz/#!YRJGkAya!aq5EvUeAfqnP3m-8TwgR...

Each one minute video clip is approx 100MB in size and is .MOV format which can be played using Quicktime or VLC Media Player.

Back to cameras for a minute confused and my 0801 stopped working on Monday morning; I put it down to being minus 2 overnight, the coldest night of the year autumn so far.

It started ok when the ignition turned on but froze after 2 seconds, and stayed frozen, with the screen on, for half an hour, even after I'd disconnected the power. When this happens with my phone I take the battery out, but you can't do that with the 0801. Eventually after I'd held the power button in for several seconds a few times it powered down, I then brought it inside the house, connected up to a computer and it seemed to correct itself; I put it back in the car and it's fine.

Anyone else had this problem with the Mini 0801?
Might be worthwhile checking whether you have hard-wired the dash-cam in using a smart power lead because these sometimes fail. The smart power lead is a generic product that can be used with many of the dash cams available on the market.

In my particular instance the dash cam kept switching itself on and off on a random basis and it was only by pure luck that the auto-electrician noticed that the LED on the adapter was also flashing on and off on a random basis. He also noticed that the smart power adapter was getting very hot. I exchanged the faulty item for a new unit and it's worked fine ever since.

Also, if you're plugging the cable and plug directly into the cigarette lighter, check to ensure the LED is on all the time on the plug that pushes into the cigarette lighter because it may be the lead that is defective rather than the dash cam.

regarding cameras ive bought two, the one i use for the front is a Next Base 402G for £100 (without a sd) which you can see here what its quality is like in day/night. For the back i have a E-Prance G1W for £30 off amazon, the reason for this is that the G1W is just as good during the day but at night its not as good as the 402G and since ive got these mainly to help in case of an accident i spent the extra to make sure it can get good clear images.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDYYFlncNmA

Edit: Also meant to add the G1W doesnt react well to bright lights (street lights, sun etc) as it darkens the footage but the 402G copes well with it.

acme, the Mini 0806 is soon to be available - I posted a link about the specs on this thread a couple of pages back. If you want one right now though, then as mentioned in the really informative post by rich888 above - the ebay seller that was linked to does seem to have a great reputation.
The 0806 specs are here - http://www.carcamwarehouse.com/mini_0806_car_camer...
not much to be gained with the extra resolution, but the MUCH bigger memory card option is what I'm waiting for.
ETA the youtube preview of the 0806 here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B68hkB2yXGw

Bugger. Managed to scratch my lens. Not noticeable on daytime footage but causes some 'bloom' on oncoming lights a night.

Have attacked it with mild cutting polish and various lens cleaners and it's better - but still not right and irritating me:

Many thanks for the replies, appreciate. If I can find out when the 0806 is available I may wait......though I need to figure out how to hard wire first of all!

You can buy the hardwire kit from the ebay seller I mentioned earlier, the link to the actual hardwire kit for the 0803 and 0805 is http://stores.ebay.co.uk/COMBI-LTD/Car-Camera-/_i.... the cost is £14.09 including shipping.

The auto-electrician I used connected the lead to a spare fuse that was live, and then following the [unrelated] fault on the smart lead, connected the cable direct to the battery, whilst remembering to fit inline fuses.

At a cost of approx £45 for a 0801 dashcam and 16GB card what is there not to like, the 1080p video quality is outstanding and if you order via the Amazon link I posted earlier it will be fulfilled and shipped very quickly by Amazon rather than from China. When the 0806 is eventually launched you can use the 0801 as the rear view camera.

In the meantime I have no intention of replacing the 0801, the video quality is stunning, and with a 32GB micro SD card is pretty much foolproof. I rarely drive at night so have no requirement for an improved low light camera. The increased SD card capabilities are the only thing that might tempt me to upgrade to the 0806.

In terms of capturing incidents that would normally go unnoticed, watch this dash cam video recorded on the M62 near Pontefract. The language used by the lorry driver is, shall we say, quite colourful. It's been posted on PH on one of the other threads but not on this one as far as I'm aware...

The incident was recorded by a dash cam fitted in a lorry and narrated by the lorry driver in the slow lane as he observed the reactions by a lane hogger to a police car looking to overtake him, the consequences of the lane hogger's actions are recorded for all to see.

If you don't like swearing then mute the video before you watch, though on this occasion, the language used just adds to the amusement factor smile

Cracking video, you're right the commentary makes it even more amusing. I need to buy a dash cam soon, will probably wait to see what the 06 prices are like.

Love that video, but I'm confused as to why they didn't immediately pull him as soon as they saw him in lane 3.

hope that driver got a nice fine for his lane hogging, braking on the motorway and then trying to stop on the central reservation. It really does stump me how these people get their license.

Daft question time.

Can the 801/802 be flipped and fitted on the passenger side without the picture being upside down?

All the pictures I've seen show it mounted on the right of the rear view mirror, I'd ideally like to mount it to the left but keep the sticky pad towards the centre line of the car for neatness.

Bumped into an old friend at the pub the other night (fireman).

He was called out to a job on Monday were someone stopped at the roundabout and reversed into the car behind. Numberplate had cracked and a slight mark on the bumper. Cut a long story short, the two guys that reversed their car complained of neck pain & the cars roof had to be cut off. Madness!

I haven't tried that but I think it's a "no", because of the limited range of swivel movement.

According to a YouTube video the newer 0806 has a greater range of movement and a Mobius style software-embedded flip 180 degree feature.

I hope to get an 0806 soon so maybe will find out...

I assume they were being nice and giving the driver the chance to move over and stay over, maybe a hand signal as they drove past.

Is there a replacement for the Mobius camera out or due out? I have the original and will be looking for another three to do front and back in my car and the wifes.

Hmm. My 0803 has restarted itself a couple of times whilst driving. If it continues to do that I'll be sending it back for replacement...
