I've identified the source of the buzzing problem on my Mobius. It's not a vibration.

I am using an Anker USB cigarette lighter charger to power the camera. When I unplug the charger and run the camera on battery power, the noise goes completely.
So the problem is either the charger itself, or feedback through the car's electrical system.

The Anker is 4.8A across two ports (so 2.4A going to the camera). Is there a minimum amount of power which the camera requires?

There will be a minimum but you're not hitting it, I ran some tests on them a while back and while I can't recall the exact number I know you can run 2 off 3A but even then they only draw a little over 2A when under the maximum load they can draw.
I run two off one 12v-5v converter rated at 3A hence the need to test.

Just received a Mobius after reading good things about it in this thread. Less than £60 on eBay for the Wide angle C lens version with mount and longer mini USB cable, arrived in just over a week from China.

Seems like a good quality piece of kit. Easy to use setup with software on PC, no issues there. Install went reasonably easy in the wife's E90 330i. Wanted to take power from the centre armrest console but the longer cable was a few inches short running it to where I wanted to mount! Luckily I found an old FM transmitter which had a female USB socket and short length of cable which was just long enough to extend it! The console lid shuts no problem with the cable running out of it. It came with quite a few handy clips for keeping the cable up out of sight when running on the underside of the passenger footwell.

Quality seems good, just taken it for a test drive. In the dusk light around 9pm I couldn't make out oncoming numberplates, no problem reading ones infront up to about 20ft. Hopefully in better light it will catch them coming the other way? Apart from that the quality is great, handles light/dark contrast well, and a really nice wide angle with the C lens, better than on most dash cam clips I've watched.

I took a few quick photos on my phone of the install, see here: http://imgur.com/a/D4LCO

It could have been neater but for a quick job its fine and not too obvious. I'm happy with the position and size of the Mobius too tucked up behind the rear view mirror. No problems removing it from the mount either. Overall for less than £60 I'm happy, fingers crossed we won't need its services but good to know its always watching if required smile
Same as mine. If you use the helmet mount (£2.94) , and flip it, you can get it much more discreet and closer to the winsdcreen

Looks good, something to consider for sure. Will see how we get on with it for the moment.

The issue I had with the current mount is if it was too high up whilst tight against the mirror mount, you could see the mount in the top right to varying extents. The helmet mount flipped around looks like it wouldn't have this problem as the camera would be further forward.

The E90s mirror mount is massive with all the rain sensor gubbins and other stuff!

Long shot but has anyone mounted a dash cam (preferably a Mini 080x) in their mk4 Mondeo? I can't really find a suitable position for mine that doesn't look really in-discrete frown At the moment I have it mounted at the top of the windscreen about half way between the mirror and the nearside A-pillar, but I can't really mount it any closer to the mirror because the annoyingly-large rain/light sensor housing obscures the view of the camera. Sigh.

All the bits for my hard-wire installation arrived yesterday so it's all mounted nicely now with not a wire in sight.. Except for the right-angled USB connector hehe

Not quite as indiscrete as I'd like, but I couldn't get any closer to the mirror because the frankly unnecessarily-huge box that houses the sensors for the auto lights and wipers covers too much of the camera's image. It still covers a bit of the corner now but it's a good compromise.

Nice little right-angled USB cable for neatness.

Made up my fuse tap cable.

Just to put this to bed, I got this from Amazon and swapped the Anker charger for it, using the 1.0A port and leaving the 2.1A port free for another device.

Buzzing noise gone smile

I've dipped in and out of this post, like many I suspect I was waiting for the 0806 but have been put off by some of the reports to date.

Recently Evo had a review on a Road Angel Halo, which has a rear mounted camera as well. The front is 1280x720p and the rear 640x480p, each with a 150 degree angle.

Has anyone used one of these or have any feedback at all? I haven't seen this one mentioned but of course this thread is very long!!

Thanks

acme,

Like you, except I gave in and just bought a 0806 from Combi, and it is absolutely perfect. Focus spot on, no oddness when I rotated it through 180°, no firmware glitches.

Thanks for the response, given a recent incident and a mate being rear ended twice I was thinking a rear facing one too would be a good idea.

So any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

Ryan.

Yes I bought mine from Amazon. Good piece of kit. I've been running it for a few months now with no problems at all. Video quality is excellent. Overall very happy with it.

I fitted an 0806 onto the front windscreen to replace the 0801 that I had purchased a few months earlier, so re-fitted the 0801 on the back screen of the tailgate so that it sat in the top right corner when viewed from the rear of the car. The 0806 is supplied with a couple of small wedges that can be used to angle the camera mount over if required. When I refitted the mount I rubbed the surface down (which the tape sticks to) with fine sandpaper and cleaned thoroughly with solvent before sticking the double sided tape to it, then cleaned the glass thoroughly to ensure it didn't come unstuck in the hot weather. It's not fallen off since.

Hi Guys,

Just looking at the 168 pages of this thread would have taken days so I thought I'd tag on the end.

After a recent stack I'm well on the way to getting a dash cam. I just had a few questions.

What HD camera is currently ruling the roost for around £100? I'm guessing they need power via USB how do you guys wire it up?

Please forgive my ignorance as I've never ever even thought about a dash cam until getting hit by an uninsured tool.

Cheers,

Take a look on Techmoan - he does some pretty good reviews and on the basis of his reviews I bought a 'wedgecam'. Fits beautifully and works well.

I reckon the 0806 has to be one of the best dash cams at the moment and the most recent batch seem to be very reliable, buy from Combi to avoid problems if it does malfunction, link is http://www.combi.org.uk/categories/6/Mini-0801-DVR and make sure you buy a 32GB or larger micro SD card.

As for wiring in, either plug into your cigarette lighter using the cable provided, or buy an additional hardwire kit and pay an auto-electrician to hardwire it in for you unless you are good with auto electrics (which I'm not).

As mentioned by the user above, take a look at the Techmoan video reviews on YouTube because he does provide some very good advice. Link is: https://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan/

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I'm currently using a 64GB card in my 0806 but I have also successfully used it with a 128GB card with no problems.

Hi guys, I have installed my mobius and it is a decent bit of kit.

HOWEVER - I have recently had a DAB radio antenna installed on my windscreen, and the dashcam when on is interfering with the DAB signal so much so that I cannot get any DAB reception with it switched on! I have done some research and understand it's a common problem. Mobius have a shielded case that they sell but I cannot find any retailers apart from them and I do not want to pay big courier fees to get one. Has anyone had this and managed to solve it? I have ordered some copper conductive tape that I am planning to put on the inside of the case as I have read this may solve it...Help appreciated!

What difference would it make to have a video of this particular uninsured tool?
