I appreciate AFL, i'm not a fan but its a sport and I get that theres not much else here to be nationally involved in but Channel 7 is showing 9 1/2 hours coverage today of the Grand Final and build up. 9.5 hours. Nine and a half hours. What the fking fk?! All day. WTF?!

What the fk are they going to talk about for 9.5hours (game itself). They already show it on the news every night for as long as the actual news is discussed and all they talk about then is build up, Jimmy McMuscles might be injured, he might not then they interview some random who isnt actually injured but hey, got to pad out the 'news' each night with non stories. And whats worse is that every channel covers the same story at the same time each night so if you go from 7 to 9 to 10 you get the same interview at the same time. Every night. Then you have the AFL footy shows 3-5 times a week saying the same old st before game day. All ongoing since March or whenever the season starts.

In the UK i appreciate a bit of football (not called fking soccer) but I dont need hours every night of it and even on FA Cup final day it wasnt 9.5 hours continuous coverage with inane fkwits saying the same old st over and over again. And lets not get started on every bodys name being a nickname or shortened with an I or a Y on the end. fk me.

I've been to quite a few AFL games through work which I priviliged to do but the atmosphere is weird - no songs, chants, passion - just lots of 'come on eagles' and 'come on dockers'. Am sure over east its different but still when people say to you they'd rather watch it on TV than live so you can see better there must be something wrong with it.

Anyway, yes I can and will watch/do something else but 9.5hours - WTF?!

LOL, I always try and see when the main event actually starts. I reckon some of the channels don't tell you when the main event is going to start purely to get to watch the dribble on beforehand! The Oz GP was good at this, I had to chuckle when James Allen gave it away when qualifying or whatever was on, he told us it was on in 2 and half hours. Greg Rust looked horrified!

Get ready for next weekend! 10 hours of Bathurst on sunday (about 3 hours of padding...arggghhh) and about 6 hours on saturday and 4 hours on Friday! Don't think I can stand that.... ok maybe I can!

I also try and watch Bathurst about 90 minutes delayed so I can get rid of the ads! have to make sure I don't turn the radio or internet on! Admittedly I watch F1 live so I can see the timing....haven't mastered that for supercars yet.

Haha my pet hate. Can't fking stand AFL. the amount it's revered here in Melbourne is crazy. When people ask "who do you go for" I tell them Accrington Stanley. The morons that follow it are worse than football fans.

I have to agree there.

The two bad things about winter in Melbourne - Rain, and football.

AFL is marginally better than NRL.

The fans of AFL are much better than the fans of NRL.

You are 100% wrong. And have obviously never lived in Melbourne or seen Collingwood retards fans

It is the most parochial, insecure sport I have ever seen. The fans and media are completely obsessed beyond what you would say is normal. To the point of media blanking out other sports on TV. e.g. rest of the country will have All Blacks vs Wallabies in the Bledisloe cup, or an important Rugby World Cup match - Melbourne will show a repeat of Meet The Parents. The seasons now over, but you can guarantee that the Herald Sun will have at least 2 pages on AFL news every day until the season starts again.

It's that bad I'm considering moving to Sydney because it gets on my nerves so much.

Trust me. It's worse here.

At least 25% of AFL fans understand basic numeracy, literacy and hygiene.

This halves for NRL fans.

It's excessive, but then I try not to watch terrestrial TV if I can help it.

It's like Wimbledon/FA cup/Grand National/Ashes/F1 on BBC before they had all the digital channels.

But it means you get to your mates house before the game and it's on in the background while you sort out your drinks and BBQ food. The wifes can pick a colour/team before it starts.

You watch the game, eat & drink

Then after you carry on getting smashed with it on in the background till someones wife turns it off and puts music on. It's just cheap TV.

I doubt anyone actually does the whole 9 1/2 hour session.
