I am looking for info on UK suppliers who might be able to set me up with a replacement a/c system for my 1995 Chimaera 4.0 RHD. I should mention at this point that the car and I live in the Cayman Islands!

Now bearing in mind that TVR never, ever imagined this car would actually need a working a/c system, much less one that needs to work in a steaming tropical climate, does anyone have experience with, say, (1)ripping out the heater (I really don't need it!)and replacing it with an evaporator core and (2)reworking the a/c vent hoses to route air to both of the dash vents (my car's system blows barely coolish air either out of the windscreen vents or into the footwells)?

we are enjoying our summer here in the uk and we rather need the hot air blowing out of our vents!!! However, do you have a/c and are looking for it to be repaired or do you wish a/c. The under bonnet temps really do make a/c a requirement unless you keep the air moving out of the area. You could keep the fans on all the time but i have half speed fans while not "speeding along". Poor mans a/c.

Well they build Chimaeras in Malaysia for the Far East market where I bet most have aircon and I assume they get it to work quite well. I would suggest trying to contact someone at TVR in Blackpool, or perhaps even better in Malaysia (OK, time differences may be an issue there).

If there is an automotive aircon specialist local to you maybe you can get them to rip out what you have and install something decent?

I don't have aircon so I can't help any more.

Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. The car has original factory installed a/c. Freon level is fine. It just doesn't send much cool air into the cockpit (compare for example the a/c on our 1990 Miata which is like a freezer).

Perhaps it's another Blackpool engineering quirk (does anyone know how well the a/c systems on newer TVRs work?).....

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to open up the dash and see what's going on with the ducting etc. Maybe the Miata system will fit!!

I bet your a/c works well to start with and goes warm after you have been sat in traffic?
