October 2012 Photo Challenge ENTRY thread
Discussion
This thread for entries only.
The topic for this month will be DECAY. That might be autumnal decay - leaves colouring and falling and so on - or could be urban decay, old cars in fields, portraits of pensioners.... Whatever you can link to the word decay!
Remember, this is the 'Challenge', so shots must be taken in October and specifically for the challenge.
As usual, the rules:
The photos taken must be your own work
The shot MUST be taken this month, with the closing date being midnight on the last day of the Challenge month
The exif must be posted with your shot
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for following month and judges it at the end of the month
The Challenge for next month should be generic, as not everyone has access to zoom, macro, specialist lenses. It should be shots that everyone is capable of achieving with the bare essentials.
There will be two threads that need starting: The Entries thread to commence same time as Discussion thread. In the Entries thread only one picture should be entered. Any others you wish to discuss should be posted in the Discussion thread.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 750 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo. Some people still have black and white tellies, and use these stupid 3G phone things for browsing the interweb. Links to larger versions are permissible.
Let's see some creativity and remember - have fun!

Hmm...
I thought this was going to be quite simple to judge, and then at the last minute it has suddenly become much more difficult!
Why, you might ask? For one simple reason... I had been comparing all the other shots to my favourite one for much of the month, and whilst there had been some really nice other entries, none had managed to knock it off the top spot.
Then - prepare to kick yourself, dear boy - Chips and Cheese decided to remove my favourite shot from the competition right at the death, replacing it with one which I don't like as much!!
So, I've now just spent 20 minutes going through all the other shots...
Mark Mullen's shot was lovely, but was, if anything, just a bit too sunny, green and vibrant to quite make it under the heading of "decay", so I'm going to award the title of this month's winner to Colin RedGriff as the subject matter coupled with the muted light & colours really hit the mark for the subject.
Over to Colin for the November subject!

Doh! I was in 2 minds as to whether to change it or not (even after I had done it!), but decided that the later shot had more autumn colour to it and still fit the theme. Oh well, at least I don't need to come up with a theme for November now!
Just in case anyone cares, my original entry which I replaced was this one:

Congrats Colin RedGriff!
