Where in Italy are you going to?
Most of the supercar makers are near Modena, which is a couple hours south of Milan. Here you'll find Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani. I think you can definatley arrange tours of Lamborghini and Pagani, not too sure about Ferrari though. They do have a large museum though.
If you are in Milan then the old Alfa Romeo factory is worth a visit. The museum is excellent (if it's still open) I went there in 2007 and my wife and I were literally the only people there. The only member of staff was an old guy in the security hut at the factory gate. not as exciting as the supercars, but more history than all of them.

i'd say the ferrari museum is well worth a look. you need to be warned though, there are lots of shops near by that will let you hire various ferraris from 15 minutes, half hour, an hour and so on. not cheap, but for many a once in a lifetime chance. i enjoyed my half hour driving a f430

I went into one of the shops selling all the Ferrari gear and did it with them. Think they are called stop/start. Once the guy who sits with you sees you can drive, he'll encourage you to open it up. I loved every second of it!

Just in case none of those work there's a small Museum dedicated to Nuvolari in his home town of Mantova but check their opening times. Interesting but a bit eclectic. Further afield the Mille Miglia exhibition just on the Eastern outskirts of Brescia's worth visiting. There's the Nicolis Museum near Verona - not been but told it's worth a visit. If he's at all interested in bikes the Ducati factory in Bologna is worth booking a factory visit. BTW depending on where you are staying/going consider travelling by train as it's quick and cheap. Enjoy. Cheers, Pewe

Maserati are in Modena and you can book a factory tour which is awesome. Just outside Modena, there is also the brilliant Panini Museum (Panini are the world famous sticker makers) but their claim to fame now is the Museum which is full of old Maseratis, including some driven by Stirling Moss and a few other Italian marques such as De Tomaso. If that wasn't enough, they also make and sell some excellent Parmeggiano and they sell the local balsamic vinegar. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani and Ducati are all within around 20km of Modena so there is no excuse to not go there, not even in a Panda. Most of these except the Ferrari Museum require prior booking. HTH

Hi guys,
we are back from our italian trip....
We've been on the Pagani tour such as stated above...
We had an amazing time, we have been round the whole factory, we've seen the fitters during their work, we've seen the last order which is for somebody in China with all the different fitting, colours and everything.
And also, as a nice detail (more a girl would notice this type of thing and would care about it) the employees don't enter by the back entrance but enter by the big door just like would a potential buyer, the energy and the good atmosphere of the whole team, added to this phenomenal success story of Horatio made this whole visit PERFECT!!!!

Hi, could you share how you booked the Pagani tour? We went to Modena this year and did a few places but wasn't aware you could book Pagani. We'll have to go back for that one!

Hey, so to book it is ever so simple either go through their web site and you'll find this address: tour@pagani.com, either to this address info@pagani.com.
The person you're gonna deal with is called Laura, she is lovely and also so professional.
I'm not a car person, but the Pagani experience was absolutely amazing.
