Federal Tyre needed urgently
Discussion
Problem is I've got 3 near perfect 205's with 6mm left on them. The 4th unfortunately took a bullet in the sidewall. Paul, do you know whether we can put your 225's on the back and leave 2 good 205's on the front? Any ideas what, if any, detrimental effect that might have on the handling? Many thanks!
Effect on handling isn't a problem. What might be a problem is that the ABS system will see that the front wheels are spinning faster than the rears and assume that the rear end is locked and/or sliding so could fire the ABS all the time or at least very early. I had just this on a Focus a couple of years ago.
On my Focus it was 195/50/15 on the front and 195/55/15 on the rear and the ABS fired every time I touched the brakes. I "fixed" it by swapping the 55s to the front but then of course the ABS & TC hardly worked at all.
That was a '98 Ford though so hopefully the ABS on a Mk3 MX5 is a bit more intelligent and the size difference you are talking about is smaller so should be less of a problem.
