After delicately highlighting that my Wiper motor is on its way out by blowing a fuse during a down pour on the M40... If anyone spotted a silver Cerb diligently following a lorry northbound on the M40, it's because I could just about to see brake lights.

Anyway, my headlights have now failed. Or rather just the high beam, side works as does full beam but no Dip.

Having a look at the ECU's, the Dim/Dip ECU has a scorch mark on one connector ( on the orange relay side ). Now my question is, would that perhaps be causing the main beam to fail or would that be down to the lights switching unit? ( Which looks fine ).

Yep, common fault. Have a search and you will find threads on what to do with pictures.

Been quoted £60-£70 and a week for turnaround. I could crack out the soldering iron, but i would be doing "Tracey 7/5/97" & "Karen 24/4/97" a disservice with my crappy soldering.. : )

In fairness i have no way of testing other than with the car, and as i'm shortly getting a HID upgrade rather it was done & tested properly in case something goes wrong with that install.

Are they going to supply you a new connector as well then? That's the bit that causes the issues.

The same guy did my dim / dip along with some of the other circuit boards. He'll sort out the original connectors that you can't find in Maplins too.

It is usually the plug on the wiring harness that burns out on the dim/dip box.

Yup, the plug is shot so will get a replacement plug and fit that once they come back. Nothing like a small fire above the petrol tank. : )

If you manage to find somewhere to get the correct replacement plug - please put it in the alternatives parts sticky. Some of us have been looking for years.
