First post on here and really pleased with my new purchase, 1996 4ltr Chimaera my first TVR. Its true what people say....I cant stop smiling. Mechanically sound but in need of a few cosmetics. No pics yet. Has anyone any pictures of the HT lead routing? mine is a right shambles as the leads appear to be arcing off all the metal work. Cheers.

Have you the Vauxhall-style HT lead plug extenders fitted? They stop the HT lead end arcing against the exhaust header and baking itself into dust.

I have the extenders on some but not all plugs.....will look into getting a few more. Issue seems to be more with the routing for the offside, can't seem to avoid the leads touching metal.

If I have the car cover off at the weekend I will have a look see how mine are routed and take a photo if it looks tidy. I don't have any problems with arcing, just with the number 8 leas coming off occasionally

I think your problem could be a lack of the little plastic retainers that keep the leads in place halfway along their length and hold them off the metalwork. Two pics - one of the general layout, one of the retainer (my name for it) with the leads unclipped.

Your problem might just ne that your leads are too long and are flopping all over the place. There's not more than a couple of spare inches on mine.....

Thanks for the info. Looks like mine has had the leads jumbled up at some stage and although they are in the correct order they are not put back to the right length size. The offside leads are too short and are routed over the rocker cover and tight under the coil without the stand off clips....arcing all along its route with carbon build up over the leads. The pictures are a great help. More clips are on order and i have sorted the lengths and routing out correctly now. Thank you all for your time.

Pleased to help - we all are. Just keep posting with any problems and there will always be someone with the right answer (and six others with the wrong one, but at least trying to help!). We are a friendly crew, and we all love our TVRs. Are you signed up for Thunder in The Tunnels next Sunday? Don't miss it!!! So far about 100 TVRs are signed up for a run through the tunnels of London early on the morning of Sunday 14th, ending at the Brooklands Classic Car meeting and Mercedes Benz World. A real chance for a noisy fun and a major session of "You show me yours and I'll show you mine" I see you are a Berk -----or at least, from Berks. There will be a convoy heading in from your area to the start if you can find it in the thread. Just post a request on the thread (address below) if you can't. Here's the link to the thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
