Alternatively, for less money, buy yourself a really nice fun car and a really nice fun aeroplane instead of some compromised ugly piece of horror... how will they ever get past that obvious course of action?

I'd buy a Ferrari and an extra 300 and still have enough to run the both for a few years.
An answer looking for a question is the way I'd describe stuff like that.

No. For much less I could have...
A Mooney with a rocket conversion (low time well under $200k) AND long range tanks.
And a nice selection of cars.
Cool idea, if it could be done for $125k or so it would start to make sense. As of now a Cessna 172 and a Prius are much less.
