This excellent series is being repeated again on BBC 4. The first episode was on last night and i still on iPlayer for the moment.
It does get shown on other channels but on BBC there will be no adverts.

A superb series together with "Auschwitz: The Nazis and the 'Final Solution" (2005) - I have watched many times.
Samuel West's narration (both series) is chilling and very moving at the same time.
His pitch/tone is perfect for the subject matter.

One of the best things shown on TV. An engrossing series but also so moving.

Indeed a very well produced programme. I like the way that they give the 'average' German a voice to demonstrate that nothing was inevitable in the rise of the Nazis, things were fluid and given a few things going against them, all the horrors that followed might not have happened. Still, I kept on muttering 'b ds' under my breath at the screen.

A great series, although there are a few gems now and again, it seems as though to get documentaries made on mainstream TV now you need a celebrity to act as an ignorant and 'learn' on their 'journey'. Or am I just being grumpy?

Along with 'The World at War', one of the best documentaries about WWII.

I like it mainly because it blew away a lot of myths about how the Nazi Party operated in Germany and the occupied countries. The main thrust of history was that people followed the dictats of the party out of blind belief in propaganda or out of fear.
The reality was quite different. Fear was a factor - but not the only one. Indeed, it wasn't even the main one.
