Hi
Was bored started reading the manual that came with the fund from the previous seller last night. Interestingly I noticed that there were roof clips listed in the parts list and respective interior diagrams. Interestingly I don't have these not evidence of them ever being there.. Is this normal?? Do any of you have the same and have any of you retrofitted these for added safety/security??

A few threads on this - the search is working!!! The originals were plastic and still available from RSPhillpot wouldn't tell you that 'cos they ain't shiny

Use advanced search - select "s series" under the TVR heading and since "8 years".
I used "roof clips" as the search term.
A lot of the links are now past it as southco appear to have stopped listing the part. I found my link in the "v8s roof clips?" thread.

Edit - yes you should have them, some of the links explain why. Whether you actually need them is up to you.

Mine are the original black plastic ones, but i've seen one or two other S's that have never had them. Perhaps there was no stock when these cars were under production. Or perhaps Sid was off sick...

LOL!! As long as i'm safe and it wasnt a delivered part then i am happy to go without.. i was worried for a moment that i had a safety problem!!!

Just try & keep it under 130 Leptons with the roof on. And make sure your tongue engagement is satisfactory & your roof stays are secure. Seriously, if you do a bit of hi-speed motoring with the roof on, I would fit the clips for peace of mind. Every little helps as they say.

MMMmmm is it hard to do?? I might have a go as i am going to track in in December.....
That said it went up the M1 and back with no drama ;-0

I might have a go as i am going to track in in December..... very easy id say looks like 4 small screw holes per clip (2 on roof panel, 2 on the windscreen surround) id track it with the roof off every time unless its really chucking it down - experience in several convertibles on track (though not with a TVR yet) has shown me you just enjoy it more.

Mine has the remains of 4 pop rivets on the windscreen surround and 1 lonely peg fixed inside one of the roof panels, and a patch where the other one used to be. Famous last words but all still in place, but most miles are with the top down.

Not quite that simple.....you'll need the bits they hook onto, looking at my picture of the RS ones I don't think they come with them ( may be something in the catalogue)? There are also some little blocks between them and the roof panels, shouldn't be too hard to improvise something there ? Some people have got the wrong idea about me.... I like stainless because it doesn't need painting and doesn't corrode, the fact it's nice and shiny is just a bonus

I seem to remember reading somewhere that TVR put the clips on because the panels sometimes became detached in the simple crash tests done in those days. Frankly I dont think it would make a lot of odds whether they came off or not in a bad accident. Anyway they would clearly be no use in the way we want to use our cars....hood off. I would however make a couple of points; The catches require an 'over centre' toggle action,unless they align perfectly they do not latch well. They were a 'pain' on mine and I know others have had the same problem. The way they are screwed in is pretty poor and doesnt do any good to the structure in those areas. I have seen several damaged screen top rails and hood panels. From a safety point of view....solving one problem created another! Sit in the car and see where your head, or your passengers, might hit in the event of a big front end (remember the seat restraints are not the best in an S and some movement forward is likely)! Dont fancy a clip shaped hole in my forehead thank you. After 2 years use of the car I took them off and they have stayed off!

I heard or read that, the flex in the chassis, when weakened with the dreaded "R" particularly the fuel tank frame, the back of the car body sags, and the pegs in the slots, slide out and the roof panels blow away. Not that I wish to worry anyone like....!
