Hi Everyone, just visiting from the Porsche Forum to get some advice please.

I am thinking of replacing my everyday car - a volvo v70 - with a C class estate, maybe a 2011 model. I have never owned a Merc and really like the look and size of the new C class so I would be really interested to hear any comments about the cars reliability, any things I need to look out for and, in particular after my V70, fuel consumption figures. I am looking to buy an auto and apart from it having a sunroof and heated seats I have no particular view on what model to get but more fuel efficient the better.

Thanks in advance for any help

Make sure you get a facelift model, there was an edition 125 available for most of 2011 which added COMAND as standard, so it would be worth hunting out one of these.

If you're after fuel economy I'd suggest a 220cdi, as coupled to the 7 speed auto the fuel consumption is pretty impressive, if you find it a bit sluggish then you could trade off about 4/5 mpg for an extra 35bhp and get a 250cdi, same engine, just tuned a bit more.

If you want mental performance and a very smooth diesel then look at a 350cdi, but you'll only get mid 30's mpg - that's what the OH is getting out of hers.

Agree with matc. You'd be looking at about £25k for a 220 CDI Estate in the more desirable Sport trim (SE a little basic). Here's one I found with heated seats and sunroof - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

Don't be afraid to buy one out of the Mercedes network as it will still have the balance of the 3-year warranty with MB.

Alternatively £3k more would get you into an Elegance with those options and only delivery miles on the clock, this time from a main dealer - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

Certainly buy the C class but in my experience don’t buy from a Merc main dealer, you will pay top money and the support after you have handed over the cash is rubbish.
