They look fine, a little "pinched" maybe, I get the dynamics even, it's an M after all. But why, oh why, would you get one over a year old M3 !!!!!????????

No driving advantage, with alot less space.
If the extra space isn't needed why not. People generally buy what they want or need not on the basis of what other people would buy.

Don't be daft, we're not talking extra metres, it's not a choice between a SUV and a saloon. You know as well as I do, the M1 is just an almost, expected, natural marketing extension of the 1 series saloon. Who's it aimed at over the already superb M3 ? I just can't imagine laying down £40k for a slightly tiny'er version of a £28k, one year old M3. What advantage does it hold, other than if you have a small garage smile

Absolutely love these, when I needed rear seats it's number 1 on the list.
Saw one in white and although it couldn't keep up with my Turbo past 60, I was stunned at how fast it was. Also what a bodykit

It always amuses me when reading through people's comments on here, how many haters there are who are supposed to be car enthusiasts! I think BMW should be applauded for making a car that is such good fun to drive if a little dangerous at times and If everyone liked the same styling on cars what a boring world it would be!
I agree. I've no problem people having opinions, but at least drive the damn thing before declaring how much you hate it. Looks I agree are personal taste and a drive might not change anyone's mind on that, but before people declare how much they hate it, they should drive one. You never know, they may just see what all the fuss is about smile

Again you've got to drive one to understand why people chose these over the M3. My local dealer ran an M-Power day where we got to drive a DCT E92 M3 and a 1M back to back. The route included both country lanes, B roads and the A12. After driving both I could see the attraction of the M3 but for me it didn't come close to the involvement of the 1M. Having come from an Exige 260, I found the M3 too big and cumbersome whereas the 1M felt lighter, more nimble, happy to turn in more eagerly, felt more responsive on the throttle and with that big slug of torque, it actually felt easier to drive in real world conditions.

So in conclusion, I wouldn't swap my 1M today for a brand new M3, let alone a year old one smile

I think the writer of the story had an M3 for quite a while, didn't you Chris?

But he's chosen a 1M too rather than a V8 M3

I get the love for the 1M, but if I was spending that much on a nearly new, 2 door, 4 seater, I think I would be more tempted by this:

Feels (to me) like a lot more bang for your buck...
Having driven a gtr that my friend owns on the road and track I bought a 1m!.
The gtr is brilliant but it's so good it's a bit boring it doesn't feel like your driving it sometimes I could have bought one if I had wanted but after driving the 1m there was only one for me!

And there is a number of former e9* M3 owners over on bimmerpost who chopped in for the 1M and haven't looked back...

Though at least this time around the press has praised rather than ridiculed like many PH members, difference being, the press have driven to appreciate what it is all about rather than seeing a picture on phweb and proclaiming it crap! lol

Opinions make the world go around biggrin

Drove E90 M3 and 1M - both are lovely but there can be no doubt that the 1M offers more accessible thrills (and will probably be a bit faster point to point, not that this is of any great relevance IMO) in daily operation. And if it's not your daily steed, why are you contemplating a saloon-derived tintop in the first place... biggrin

One thing, if I bought one I would have to replace the front seats with BMW Performance Recaro seats. The rest of the car is so mad the seats are a real let down.
But they're damn comfortable...
I don't doubt they are, but something special would really make a difference to the interior. For example the Recaro's Audi / VW put in their RS and R models.

I't not limited to the 1M, excluding the CSL a lot of M cars are the same, the e46 m3 seats look like something you'd sit in beside a fire drinking brandy (I love e46 M3 btw )

Seats make a huge diffence to a car imo, even sitting in traffic it can make a car feel special.

The orange one with the dark wheels at the beginning of the thread is running bilstien pss10 suspension and 12mm spacers on the back and 10mm on the front
A small item such as spacers makes such a difference, when the coilovers went on mine ( M coupe not 1M) it looked like it was running space saver wheels. 12mm spacers all round made a huge difference to the looks. No effect on the handling imo.

But keep in mind the recaro's Audi/VW fit are an expensive option and not the standard seating, but saying that you can fit the BMW Performance recaro, again an expensive seat to fit.....

Hmm the looks are what would deffo put me off. In fact, cars are like people, if CH says "I like it best in black", it's because it's ugly, put it in black hides it.
If people tell you you look good in black, you're probably fat and should hide your "curves".

Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Furthermore, as an only car? I've had a 1 series for a week as a courtesy car, and that was the full-on 5 door, not the 2 door coupé. It was tiny. Back seats were very cramped and boot space ridiculous. BMW should make a 5-dr 1M for extra practicality, then it might be a little bit more interesting.

I give you the M135i hatchback. Available with equally marmite looks, 95% of the power, 5drs, adaptive suspension, a manual gearbox and yours for circa £30k. For the extra £10k a 1M costs, I dare say you could also tune it up to be as quick and lairy than a 1M too.

Please, show me where they hide all the 1 year old M3s that are just £28k.

LMAO!

Monkey said it looked better in black or white, he wasn't a fan of the 'burnt orange'.

Personally it would be the last colour choice for me too. I think it looks great, I'm not a fan of the standard car, but the 1m has all the right curves in all the right place.

If they ever drop in in price to around 20k they will become very interesting. £40k was value for money as a new car but I don't think they are worth that used, ragged and thrashed.

I know, but they seem to be more common than not in the rs4. There was a lovely black one for sale in the classifieds about a month ago with the performance seats ( had orange stiching to match the rest of the interior) looked brilliant.

Can't find a pic of that one but here's similar..I'd do without the harness's though.

half-decent fuel economy.
Nonsense (well maybe, if you left it parked up in your garage on weekdays)

The most fuel inefficient car I've owned to date. Hopeless.

Poorly chosen spring and damper rates too (for bumpy UK A/B roads) E46 M3CSL suspension a far better developed and more rounded ride/handling package.

And an even more expensive route, re-covered in matching leather and orange stitch

and the re-stitch route, but this one done by Recaro Germany to an exact.
