Howdy

Thinking about a few day road trip to the west country, incorporating the Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford.

Might also take in the odd pretty Market Town, seaside, English Heritage site, curry, beer.

I'm looking for some inspiration? Any suggestions (including cozy pubs with accommodation & real ale/chips) most welcome.

Cheers beerdrink

Lovely part of the world, good idea thumbup

Can't offer any suggestions on pubs but, as you'll be in Sparkford anyway I would advise you to pop down the road to Yeovilton and visit the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

Wells ticks the pretty town box and this time of year means no tourists! It's also Sandford in Hot Fuzz smile

Agree, Wells is lovely, don't bother with Glastonbury though, it's st frown

Just remembered a great pub for food, The Panborough Inn, the food is amazing, if a little expensive.

I don't know when it's supposed to be completed, but Haynes is currently being extended. Haven't seen the scheme, but it will hopefully be good. Just so you know, the museum as existing is still open. Enjoy it thumbup

Thanks for that. The website does say new section delayed due to unavoidable circumstances.

Probably the large amount of rain and the high winds we had round 'yere recently. Exceptional weather and all that.

I too love stuff like that. National Trust can be a bit hit & miss on opening times after 30th September. It does have some opening times though! thumbup

We called in on the way to Plymouth last Sunday (30th). Really good couple of hours. A local m'bike club (about 40) had a meet there at the same time. Everything looked fairly complete, parking for maybe 80 cars?
Two shot panorama:

We like the Podimore Arms, near the Fleet Air Arm Museum but it's a bit small for a meet.

the podimore inn has closed down now and is up for sale.

if you're going to visit wells you might aswell venture to cheddar for a drive up through the gorge or explore the caves.

Had a cracking day or two down there with a ate a couple of years ago.

We did the Fleet Air Arm museum, the Haynes museum, found some cracking country pubs and got a nice B and B on the final approach to the Yeovilton air field.....
