Rover 3500 V8 cam choice?

Hs any one got recommendations for a performance cam upgrade for a 3.5 V8. It is an ex SD1 block now residing in an MGB GT.


The engine is standard apart from a weber 4 barrel carb and Mallory dizzi.

I've got a Crane 218 in my 4.6 SD1. Reasonably smooth idlle with great mid range torque. Kent do something similar. There are hotter cams of course, but for the street I wouldn't go too wild especially with a 3.5.

depends how you drive - if you do track days and visit the redline quite often then you want a screamer - a TVR-type grind from piper - the 270 or bonkers 285

If you like to ride a wave of torque and don't rev past 5000 then I can recommend the H180 from Kent cams. Superb piece of kit.

Any pics of the engine bay?
I currently have a bog standard MGB GT V8, for which a nice pair of Peter Burgess ported & flowed heads are waiting to be installed.
It might be a good idea (in a 'man maths' kind of way ) to install another cam and/or another carb at the same time...

To answer your question: I'm looking into this subject as well, and read some good stuff on the Evenden Engineering RC87 (previously precision engineering apparently).

Church, i will try to post some pics up but it is a mess.

Can any one advice on how to best cure some noisy lifters? I rather stupidly ran the engine with no oil pressure (changed disi and failed to notice the new one had no oil pump drive shaft on it). It didn't run for long but it now makes a hell of a racket.

I have been advised to change the oil and to mix in an additive.

Some one else has advised to pour a litre of automatic transmission oil or diesel into the engine and then run it for a bit. Apparently this should clean everything prior to the oil change. I have heard mixed things about oil additives and can't find anything at all about diesel (other than how to clean red diesel with used engine oil).

Is it wishful thinking believing an oil change with or with out additive or diesel will cure the problem?
