I think I might have a problem with my ignition switch. Having searched the forum its not clear what needs to be done to change the electrical switch. One post I found said about breaking the shear bolts and another suggested a lot of wiggling will get it out.

Suggestions appreciated please!

Thanks

Graham

The shear bolt is to remove the steering lock assembly and not the switch part. The switch is held on the rear by two little screws, and knowing its a Vauxhall part and the number I changed whilst I was in the trade with Vauxhall I know they do fail often, remove steering column cowlings, remove the two grub screws release the switch and disconct the loom and fit a new switch in reverse.

To be fair the hard part is to get to the rear screw, access around the dash area may make getting a screwdriver in difficult,so I'd struggle to release the screw enough to pull the switch out, but not remove the screw completely, the front one can be taken out as its easily accessible, then take the new switch and slightly snip the round locating peg so that it will slip over the rear screw and then tighten it up.

Thanks for the info. Whilst its apart, I think I will take the opportunity to have a live feed without the full ignition circuit. Has anyone carried out the mod on the Chimaera pages please?

A reasonable simple job... I didn't fancy wiggling the whole unit out with one screw in place so changed the internals with the case in place. Some evidence of poor contact on the original mechanism so hopefully good for another 19 years!
