Evening!

Anyone that simply uses their GoPro for trackday videos, have you got around the problem of sound? I run mine in a skeleton case but the microphone still isn't the best.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMw2e_uOAns&li...

I'd like to get an internal mic, pref a low profile one, to cancel out the noise. Any suggestions?

Picked up a Hero 4 Black a couple of weeks back to document what I photograph/fly in this year to make an end of year video again like my 2014 one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU7HsLxhWIM

Quick timelapse test as they fold the rotors back on a Mk7 Sea King: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=8453715588527...

And a slow motion test at 1080p 120fps during a photoshoot in Wales: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=8497374484161...

Hi All I'm after a bit of advice...

Decided I'd get a Go-Pro for my Birthday, mainly for filming trackdays but also when out on the mountain bike. The entry level Hero was what first attracted me but the fact that you can't change the battery or connect with the app to view footage/set up shots puts me off slightly. I was wondering if you thought it would be worth while getting a 3+ Silver instead? Is the higher (just over double) price worth the addition features? Also as you can't change the Hero battery, presumably a year or so down the line it's capacity will begin to drop with no option to swap it?

Thanks

I've no experience of the latest entry model, however I know that there's a nig difference between say a white, silver and black mainly the difference in low light which becomes apparent when under trees etc when out on the mountain bike.

What setting do people generally leave there go pro recording video on? I was using 1080 60fps but a few people have said this just isn't needed.

Thanks, hadn't thought of going between different light levels, I think the base model Hero auto adjusts for low light but don't think the Hero 3+ Silver does.

Side of my helmet mostly - I assume that's what you meant rather than which mountains?

It seems to give the best 'sense' of the trail - I tried a chest mount but got a lot of footage of my top tube. In the summer I'll try mounting it on the bike, once the trails are dry and the camera won't get covered in mud and crap.

The disadvantage of the side helmet mount is that after a whole day or riding DH trails and hitting jumps and drops it does make your neck hurt - the helmet is quite unbalanced with a Go-Pro stuck to one side.
A Go-Pro never really replicates how steep something is - or how big the jumps and drop are. It makes everything look about half the size, something I learned after watching trail footage on YouTube and thinking - 'Yeah that looks fine' - then to find that that 10ft gap is 20+ feet in real life and that 3 foot drop is actually 6ft+

I've uploaded a few short vids on my Pinkbike profile here - I'm afraid it's not exactly Red Bull Rampage! http://www.pinkbike.com/u/athey76/channel/all/

Depends what you're doing. 60fps is good if you want to slow footage down in post otherwise 1080-30 or 720-30 is a sufficient compromise between quality and file-size.

I record everything on 1080p 120fps - File size is big, but everything I record on it is fast moving, so the ability to do slow mo is important to me

Haha yeah autocorrect got me there! I was thinking about mounting to the bike. May have a go at mounting to my helmet but as you say it sounds a bit unbalanced. Can't get the videos to work on my phone, will check them out when I get home!

Bought the entry level GoPro Hero about 3 weeks ago, I would have had a change use it sooner, if only I had worked out that it goes through battery life almost as quickly on standby as it does recording!

Anyway, he's my first attempt of another MTB video - I haven't tried any editing or anything like that yet - but it's bloody brilliant for the money IMO - certainly better than the SJ2300 or whatever they call the Chinese copy ones for £50 more, with the added benefit of not coming with exploding chargers.

I've got the official GoPro chesty and considering how much of a battering my arms are taking due to poor Fork settings, I think the image is pretty stable. It's in 720p 50FPS, it does 1080p too, but I'm told it can't adjust for light in that setting?? Anyway, I suspect it would be pretty poor without that as it was a very bright day, in a very dark forest. Going to try a helmet mount next.

I'm sure it's been asked before, but what's the best 3rd party skeleton case option for the 3+ Black?

Boro are you still watching this thread?

Still here ;-)

We don't do alot with 3rd party housings, mainly due to the possibility of water ingress but I guess a Skeleton Housing would be ok, even if it wasn't upto the usual GoPro standard.

Changing the subject, we have just had these delivered though...

Does anyone else have this problem of slow motion elements of the video when playing back a 120fps in Quicktime on a Mac? It's a known problem apparently and Apple don't seem to want to fix it!
