Cool van.

What I can't understand is why VW built this instead of just supplying type 2s? It doesn't seem to offer any real advantage. Unless they did it to sell smaller vans to a customer who wasn't prepared to pay the extra for a standard van. (Sounds odd but there is some logic there).

I'll put some more pics up soon, the plans are over winter, to strip the paint off and re do it, take the v6 lump out the back and put a new main seal in, and while it's out freshen up the engine and engine bay smile

Very cool, I don't really know much about these although have always been into aircooled VW's. Are they based on a beetle floorpan or more like a type 2?

as ricola said its based on a karmann ghia floorpan, headlights are karmanns, steering wheel is split beetle, and various other parts are pretty much 1 off

No disrespect but VW took one of the prettiest cars ever made and did that too it!

Almost the definition of turning a silk purse into a sow's ear smile

It may be ugly but it's still a cool van.

It was commisioned for the German Post Office, so I don't think winning a beauty contest was on the top of the list when designing the car. I've always loved the look of them.
