Boxster 987 - will it fit in the garage?
Discussion
I am considering a 987 Boxster but I’m fairly sure it won’t fit in my tiny garage.
The garage is 2375mm wide x 5050mm long. The length is fine as the Boxster is approx. 4350mm but the width is a real problem. The Boxster is 1801mm wide (excluding the mirrors) and 1952mm including the mirrors. By parking the car with around 100mm between the edge of the passenger mirror and the garage wall I will have a gap of 400mm between the driver’s side of the car (not the edge of the mirror) and the garage wall. Do you think this will be enough to get out of the car?
I have a mk3 Mondeo as a daily driver and I tried parking this in the garage last night. I could get out of the car but it was a bit of a squeeze. I’m 5’8” and fairly slim (around 10.75 stone). The seat in the mondeo is higher than the Boxster and the door is shorter in length. Not sure on the width of a mk3 mondeo but doubt it will be much different to a 987 boxster.
Thanks in advance

Parkng with the roof down will certainly make getting in and out easier but I was hoping to keep the roof up when in the garage to stop the interior getting dusty.
The house is timber frame construction.and the garage walls are plasterboard dry lined so I might gain a few cms by recessing the plasterboard at the door location.

You should be fine. My garage is very narrow but by sliding the drivers seat all the way back I can get out of my Cayman with a gap of 300mm at a push. You could be cheeky and go to a dealer for a test drive of a 987 and say you need to check the fit in your garage. Or see if any 987 owning Piston Headers living near you will try their car for you. If you were near me I would offer.
I have put polystyrene ceiling tiles on the wall with double sided tape and open the door onto that so if I need to squeeze in and out the door is okay.

i have a spyder(same size as any 987.2) and my garage is 2600mm wide i have brick piers in the middle of the side walls supporting the roof so the passenger side door is about 400mm from the wall and i get in and out no problems, but it does have buckets which are more of a struggle to get out of.i have used no nails and stuck a carpet square sample on the wall for the door to hit.if you can make a recess of 200-300mm for the door which only needs to be few inches high and wide would make getting out even easier.
i get out with windows and roof up!

Was just about to suggest this, then I read it too! so quoted!Edited by TonySim on Monday 29th October 16:46
Alternatively, just climb over the back of the seat with the roof down.

Roof won't close remotely - indeed the instructions tell you to only do it with engine on to avoid running the battery down.
Where are you OP? Happy to swing by in my Cayman if that helps (and you're close).
Thanks for the offer. I live in Dunfermline, just north of Edinburgh.Where are you OP? Happy to swing by in my Cayman if that helps (and you're close).
Gosh, that's a wide garage............... Hell no, just checked you are only 7 feet 9 inches!
My Cayman fits mine which is 8 feet between pillars!
Sorry for Imperial measures, did not do Roman Catholic at school, still think in Imp.
And I thought my garage was tight!

I live 5 miles away from you...If the weather is good at the weekend I could bring my Cayman down and see if it fits In OK.Klippie said:

Other advice wrap some sponge and gaffer tape around the far side garage door jamb and put something soft on the same wall. Having grazed both this is a lesson that I've picked up!
