LG Google Nexus 4
Discussion
Behaving a bit better, not used it much but no show stoppers. However
- Bluetooth audio is a bit iffy, stuttering etc. Skipping to the next track seems to help for a bit, perhaps something to do with the music playback on the device rather than the bluetooth connection?
- Waze doesn't work, understandable as many apps probably haven't been tested on Android 5.0 yet.
uh.... battery is now rubbish
I've done the usual, factory reset, no apps, charged full, drained full a few times, but its still dire, it was never great, but if I leave it alone it'll lose maybe 80% in a few hours, and if I use it ill get maybe an hour.
I have had it over 12 months so i'm not sure LG will be intrested in replacing a battery.
Is it worth paying a man on a market to replace the battery? Is it very tough to do myself? Any battery case recommendations?

Dead easy indeed. Couple of very small torx screws near the charging socket, pop the sim tray out and get a guitar pick to prise the back off (careful not to twist or bend too much or you'll break the glass) then heat up the battery with a hair drier as its glued in and prise it out.

Even if you break the glass you can replace it fairly easily - I broke mine and it was £14 for the replacement, hairdryer, gaffer tape and sharp knife are all you need.Surprisingly my battery is still going strong, though I do and have charged it every night and occasionally leave it plugged in at work. Must be 18 + months old now.
Any idea when the new update is due to be launched?

Because
So, you've installed the official release which hasn't been released yet then? How did you manage that then?- Your phone won't reboot after restoring all your apps on it (from Google play), so you'll need to wipe and start again
- Speaking of which, Google play access is iffy (can't view installed apps, sometimes, can't install stuff sometimes)
- Bluetooth is a bit reluctant to connect/detect devices (well my car at least)
- Hangouts (SMS app) crashed at least once)
- At least it still works as a phone. For now....

Going to give this (Android 5.0 (stable?) beta for Nexus 4) a go...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/developmen...
Wouldn't say it's an official release, or even an official beta. Currently on 'Stable-9001'.http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/developmen...
Only real issue/annoyance is the bluetooth cutting out while playing music in the car, which can be solved by selecting the next track.
Prefer the old settings dropdown (or whatever is/was called, from the right side).
Auto brightness doesn't seem to work.
Doesn't seem to be an option to clear all alerts/close all apps.

Can't comment on anything else, but the clear all alerts seems to be there in MKBHD's video:Only real issue/annoyance is the bluetooth cutting out while playing music in the car, which can be solved by selecting the next track.

He does mention "it was gone in the previous build but it's back now".

So your comments aren't really valid then. You're saying people shouldn't install the final release version when you're making comments about a version which may not even be a current beta release,Only real issue/annoyance is the bluetooth cutting out while playing music in the car, which can be solved by selecting the next track.

Steady on. That was a bit unnecessary.
Why? When we get told[quote]Yeah... best waiting for the official update...
It's like me reviewing Windows 10 now and telling people not to buy it when it gets released.
I never said people shouldn't install the official release, rather "best waiting for the official update". I was highlighting issues with the build from XDA in case anyone was tempted to try it.
More like trying an unofficial Windows 10 beta/pre-release, then highlighting issues that anyone may need to be aware of if they're tempted to try it (especially as the build was labelled as 'stable')
Unnecessary indeed.

Cheers, I'll check the video out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEDQ1z1-PvU

I've stuck on the latest build from that XDA thread (LRX08) earlier today, and noticed the icon to clear the alerts. The UI looks more polished compared with that previous build, me likey
Bluetooth still a bit iffy, hopefully not going to be a repeat of the 4.4 releases...
