Book 3 was def my favourite so really looking forward to the second trilogy.
Second trilogy wasn't as good for me...but I find Brin rather hit-and-miss (bit like AC Clarke). Currently reading Existence, which is a departure in style for him and better for it.

Thanks, it was like wading through treacle, I did not finish it.

I will give the preceding books a read and revisit it.
I re-read the foundation series every 5 years or so and Im surprised you find them tough as by the standards of modern hard SF they're really just old school adventure yarns. And for the record the non Asimov foundation books are complete censored
Not sure why, just seemed a ponderous story to read.

I did really enjoy the moon is a harsh mistress by Heinlein, I thought it was a cracking story.

I remember Heinlein's Friday fondly.
Haven't read it in twenty-odd years and fear it's not aged well - umming and ahhing about whether to revisit.

Is that the one with the reporter woman? If so I enjoyed that as well!

Re-read it a couple of years ago. Not aged too badly. Apart for Stranger in As Strange Land it's my favorite Heinlein book.

It has a Southern African connotation.smile

Just finished Day of the Triffids, a good read, very "war of the worlds" in its style, but well worth the time.

Any suggestions of post-apocalyptic reads ?

A quick search on amazon reveals: Wool and Extinction game as top rated, anyone read them?

I know, I am (was) South African smile

While I'm here, I just finished Alastair Reynold's Revelation Space, it was very good, quite gripping. I will read the rest of the series I think, after I'm done with Abyss Beyond Dreams.

The problem is how long to wait for the remaining 2 books of the Abyss Beyong Dreams trilogy, almost finished! I loved The Night's Dawn Trilogy as I read it one after the other, didnt have to wait for release!

Peter F Hamilton's "Mindstar" trilogy. Post-deluvian rather than post-apocalyptic, but similar...

I'm waiting for the full set before I read it - got massively annoyed at not being able to read the Void trilogy back to back.

How does it compare to his other work so far? No spoilers please!

Read Wool and really enjoyed it, v interesting premise and lots of twists and turns, not a huge amount of 'action' but still a page turner

And his friend Ozzie Osborne. erm.

I've just finished the first 'book' and I don't even. It's good though.

Was speaking to Neil while typing meant Nigel Sheldon (inventor of the workhole technology) and an other character from void trilogy (can say that much more)!

Very wise! I was shouting 'nooooo!' at the final page it was such a cliffhanger! hehe

Loved it - but I definitely think reading the other commonwealth and void books first allow you to get more out of this story.
