Need help, just started on XB1 and I have a important data to deliver, it tell me what system but not much else, what should I look for when I get into the correct system? Navy points? Signals? I went to 1st nav point in the system where the bounty was to find an Eagle just sitting there on idle, is this part of my mission? Can't seem to work out how to communicate?
Your data to deliver will be marked with a system and then a station. When you FSD into the system check the list on the left menu and you should see the station you need to deliver to. You can also check the Transaction menu to double check where you need to go.

I got stuck in deep space with no fuel so ended up self destructing. I don't think a Hauler is the best for transport and trading, it's just not big enough. I'll stick with my Sidey, maybe get an Eagle later.
'Get an Eagle later' turned out to be tonight. Nice wee craft, not a huge step up from the Sidewinder but having three lasers instead of two is handy.

Thanks for that. Got destroyed so started again, bought a hauler and running gold from Wolidge Station to chub station in the Evarate system, making 8k per run takes about 10 minutes, bit slow might try something else.

Just bought this for the xbone and I've really no idea where to start. I tried to do a mission to take down some pirates and got my arse handed to me. Any advice on what to try initially?

Initially try some courier missions. They give you the cargo, you take it there.

Then move onto smuggling (line up your entry then go into the space station at 200 leptons) or picking up black boxes and whatnot with your fuel scoop. Watch out for the temperature of your ship smile

Get something with a reasonable range (upgrade frame shift drive), good fuel tank and cargo hold. Buy a fuel scoop. Get a Cobra. Then do the rare run. Like this.

I just bought a Fer de Lance. I first wanted this ship some 30 years ago. It looks a bit different but I'm not disappointed. biggrin

I was in exactly the same boat as you, but I couldn't get on with the FdL. I've got a bit of spare cash now so I might try it again and set it up for terrorising RES sites.

Finally ground my way to an Elite combat rating, think I might try something other than CZ now...

Well done on the rating.

Dare I ask, circa 8k+ bounties for that? (Think it was about that much last time I was on Reddit).

Thanks. I was probably considerably above par, but then I wasn't really grinding my combat rating to get to Elite until after 1.3 came out and showed your % to the next rating, and I was Deadly 37% which made Elite within touching distance. Before that I was just farming RES for credits not rating - when you are Deadly you need to be targetting Elite or Deadly players in order to boost your combat rating significantly.

Anyway, it took me just under 10,000 bounties and 2,800 combat bonds to get there. Most of the combat bonds took me from Deadly to Elite, I hadn't really gone into a CZ until then.

Have to say it was a bit of a grind in the end, though watching the % creep up helped enormously. Don't think I'd have got there without the visual feedback on progress.

Interesting, thanks for that.

I guess I need to bump my combat bonds up. I'm at 38% Dangerous but It seems the games taken a shift since 1.3. I find Res a waste of time now. Fine if you are new in something small against similar targets but a waste of time for larger stuff. Long gone are the nights I'd make 4 million an evening taking Condas one after the other....

It will be months, perhaps longer for me to go get to 10000 bounties 2800 CBs which is frustrating as the Bulletin Boards have some nice Million plus missions, Elite or Founder only!

RES seem more balanced now and I'm making quite a lot of money with the Ferde. I'm also having a truckload of fun, 'specially when I wing-up with a good friend of mine. He wants a FDL too. Secretly yearns for one, I reckon. Too bad, I bagsied it.
hehe

By the way, congratulations on your Elite combat rating Philbo, that's awesome.

Should be interesting. There's a 10% discount (and a free Cobra Mk IV) for anyone who signs up for Horizons in advance. I'd link to the Frontier store where the offer is, but the website is currently experiencing "availability" issues...

I've just (last night) made Elite on exploration as well, so this will give me something to look forward to. I've definitely had £40 worth of play value out of the original game, happy to buy Horizons even if it ends up not floating my boat.

Just popped in to say congrats to PhilboSE, a remarkable achievement mate well done! cool

I had a quick go the other day but got bored after 10 mins, strange really because I couldn't put it down at Christmas. I think my 'conda is still at Tench!
I haven't played since March or April but I think the new planet exploration will be good and add a new interest from the monotony of starbase to starbase.

Bit disappointing to see the planetary landings doesn't include planets with atmosphere frown That'll be in another future expansion.

Indeed well done Phil, that's quite an achievement!

I also preordered Horizons this evening too, went through fine with the discount. I'm still really enjoying the game ranking up in the Empire and doing the Powerplay thing but I've settled down to 2-3 times per week only playing it due to other commitments.

Yep, well done Philbo! Triple elite on the horizon?

Unfortunately I'm just thoroughly bored with the game now. I've had my monies worth but not sure I'll be buying the Horizon expansion. Games just died for me. Power play hasn't lived up to expectations, at the start it was a giggle with the amount of person v person combat but even that has now died out. RES that used to be packed with wanted condas have gone, I'm lucky to get a night with Python/FDS/Clippers now.

Who knows, maybe I'm missing something.

Never mind, still kicking arses in COD biggrin

Didn't some of the different levels of Kickstarter backing include some future expansions?

Cheers all! Don't think I'll be going for triple Elite; trading's too hard now to find a route that doesn't get rinsed fairly quickly. Apparently there are some opportunities created by PP for high value round trips but they're all quite fluid. I've worked out that getting to Elite trading will take about 300 hours on my favoured route - that's WAAAY too much of an investment.

TBH my Elite exploration rating was almost an accident; I was searching for "goals" and did the trip to Sag A* (took me a couple of attempts) and that trip alone got me so close to Elite I decided to head out to the neutron fields and farm the remaining credits I needed - took a week or so putting in a couple of hours a day. Combat Elite status was a similar situation - I'd got close enough in "normal" play that grinding out the last kills to get to Elite was achievable in a manageably short time by farming a CZ.

Now I'm back in main space and I'm wondering what to do. Haven't dabbled in PP yet but I haven't read good things. Just tried my second community goal last night, but it turns out it was bugged.

It's a real shame the RES sites are broken. What makes it worse is that FD haven't confirmed if they are now working as intended, or if the generators need another tweak. They've got them wrong on so many occasions that it's hard to know.

Ultimately I think Elite is about achieving self-imposed goals; unfortunately you do get to the stage where those goals are hard to find or commit to, and I might be at that point...

Still, I've preordered Horizons not because I have any great anticipation for it, but because I've had so much play value out of my initial £40 that I don't mind chucking another £30 at them.

I went for it and bought the lifetime pass as I still play regularly enough that I'll probably get the worth out of it. My interest disappears at times but there's usually something going on such as a community goal that grabs my interest like the one at Bast to find a cure to the plague recently.

Well done Philbo. I'm working towards Dangerous rating at the moment and that seems like a lot of effort, can't imagine the amount of hours you had to put in to get to Elite and for me the exploration rating looks a lot easier to get to which I'll go for once I make Dangerous in combat.

I don't think I've put the 1000 hours in that FD say some people have, but I reckon it's probably about 500. I had a really slow start as I didn't keep up with the community websites and so I learned most of the game mechanics for myself the really slow & hard way. However once I got into an Asp things accelerated and then really kicked on when I could fit out a combat Python. Going from Deadly to Elite only took a few evenings grind, once you know the tricks to accelerate the process.

I agree that exploration Elite is probably now the easiest, if you do it the quickest possible way, which is to go to the neutron fields and scan those:
1. 16000 ly trip to get to the nearest field: 8 hours
2. Scan 3000 neutron stars (3000 stars x 36,000 credits x 150% first discoverer bonus = 160M = Elite): 50 hours
3. 16000 ly return trip: 8 hours

So it's definitely do-able in 64 hours total gameplay. During the race to triple Elite those dudes were putting in 8-12 hour days so it could be done within an elapsed week - if you put your life on hold. Probably took me about 2 months.
