I'm having an abdomen/pelvis CT scan later this week and have been given 2 bottles of gastrografin that each need to be diluted in 1 pint of water/squash and drunk 90 minutes apart ( the 2nd being 90 minutes before the scan appointment).
A bit of googling and it appears that this gastrografin tastes foul and diluting it with a pint of water just prolongs things. Some people have suggested that you can swallow the gastrografin (approx 10ml/bottle)neat and then, straight after, drink a pint of Ribena. This sounds like quite a good idea...as long as it doesn't mess up the scanning process. Any thoughts?

For anyone who's reading at a later date...
Gastrograffin is a very sharp aniseed flavour/smell but very few people find it unbearable.
If you've been told to, you DO need to dilute it in water/other fluid as the gastrograffin is what makes the imaging diagnostic and you want to guarantee an even coverage. Downing the gastrograffin and then a pint of water will only reduce the diagnostic quality of your CT scan, so you aren't doing yourself any favours.

The point I was trying to make was that the taste wasn't too bad. Comments on the internet suggest that it was going to taste a far lot worse. Since my main symptom that is being investigated is 'persistent vomiting' it was a concern that I would throw up immediately if the taste was too bad. It wasn't.
I did what the hospital had suggested and mixed it with a pint of fruit squash ( apple & blackcurrant).

Given that the gastrofin doesn't pass straight through the stomach and it churns every 20 seconds downing a pint of water after the gastrofin will still get a good mix. Gastrograffin is a very sharp aniseed flavour/smell but very few people find it unbearable.

Not exactly
Only managed to get through to the receptionist this morning - they had tried calling me but I was never in.
I feel a lifestyle change is about to befall me - I've a calcified pancreas with a big cyst on it.
I was reading the Daily Soovy this morning and there was an article on Pancreatic cancer - and I went...oh bugger, that's what I've got.
