Our work gym has just started one of those monthly challenges trying to get everyone involved and for this one they are trying to get people to record their best scores for the following:
2k row
1mile run on treadmill (from standing start)
1 rep max squat
1 rep max bench press
overhand pull ups (from straight arm)
ab crunches (feet on wall and holding 10kg weight)
5k bike

A few scores have come in so far from various people. What do you think are impressive numbers and can you do better ?
So far for the men:
overhand pull ups - 25
squat - 140kg
row - 7:23
run - 5:13
bench - 110kg
ab crunches - 110

I'm sure people will beat the most of those as it is early days, but the pull ups and squat ones will be tough to beat....

I'll update with more numbers when I see them.

I'll bet the individual doing the pullups either had a narrow grip (cheating), weighs about 7 stone or is a gymnast. 25 done strict is very good. smile

the row time is poor in comparison to the pull ups/cruncges.

I would say squat is average and bench is low.
9 months training (on and off due to injuries) ive got a 160kg squat 1RM and 150kg bench 1RM
However my squat is far below what it should be frown

Now I would be impressed if one person did them all!

I was there for the pull-ups and it was a genuine 25 with a wide grip. He went for the 26 but didn't quite make it. I normally train with him - rugby player mainly and 16st. I think it helped that he broke his leg a few years ago and had a pull up bar at home so was using that for months. I also did a 2k row with him about 6mths ago and he got about 7:05. He'll also do an impressive bench but nothing else submitted as yet....

The guy who did the 140kg squat has also done a 7:30 row.

I will be able to get around the same 7:23 for the row and had a practice attempt at the run but only got 6:06 - I should be able to get to 5:45 at best I think.....

I managed 41 wide grip pull ups when I was 20, I was very light and rather strong. Not sure how 'strict' it was done but the mate I went to the gym with was an ex-army PTI and he wasnt very forgiving. I remember after it was a struggle to move my arms (and for quite some time after, perhaps a week or more) and it was a struggle driving home. lol.

Yes it will have made a huge difference, though it's still impressive. I reckon it would take someone who already does pullups about 4-6 weeks to reach 25.

Pull ups are decent, Squat and bench are fairly low IMO, no idea about the others really.

25 pull ups seems quite good, I can do 20 without any problem. Never done 5 kms on a bike but I've done 5 miles in a fraction over 11 minutes. Reckon I could beat that pull up total quite easily. The rest, no way!

The one I'm certain I'd never do is the 5.13 run. Oh and the bike, whatever it turns out to be. (Better make that two then).

Work gym! Blimey, most of my office would struggle to lift their eye lids...

All seems pretty impressive to me.

A couple of updates added today:

5k bike - 6.28
squat - increased to 144kg

The rest are unbeaten but I reckon people are probably practising a bit before they put in their score...

I was in a gym where they had gym challenges on a white board one time, it was fun. I took the deadlift and squat titles, couldn't get bench. biggrin

Having a gym at work is ridiculously useful, makes for a good place to meet colleagues you wouldn't otherwise bump into.

The row is okay, but then not that many people at gyms seem to take rowing seriously; on our last gym rowing challenge I was 4th with a 7:22, those ahead of me were putting in 6:58, 7:02 and 7:15.

Now, if it were to be a *real* challenge, each person entering would be having to do every discipline, and average out their position. Personal favourite challenge was doing a team challenge solo (run, ride and row, total of 120 miles per person). I was the only one to complete it .... 363 miles done in the month, most painful way I've ever found of losing weight.

What would be impressive if you had to do all the challenges not just excel at one of them smile

For some reason I really really struggle with pull ups, even after working on my shoulders, back/lats and arms I struggle to do more than 5-6 frown I'm not fat either (6"1, 12st 7lb ish)
