Road Trip Suggestions?

Thinking of taking a few weeks holiday in the New Year and planning a drive from The Cape to Port Elizabeth - stopping for three to four nights at probably four locations along the way. Any recommendations as to a route and where to stay?

Only one route and that's the garden route along the N2.
Knysna, George, Sedgefield area is very nice. Hermanus (relatively close to CT) is probably worth a stopover.
Oudtshoorn is possibly worth a visit too. Sure to get a decent ostrich steak or burger there.
If you are spending any time in CT, you'll want to hit the wine route.

All of the ones mentioned, the whole garden route is amazing.

George, Knysna, Hermanus, Jeffreys Bay (if you like surfing).

Don’t stop at P.E though, if you go 6-8 hours east along the coast you are missing out some amazing places all the way to East London and beyond, eg the Wild Coast, in the old homeland of Transkei and up the coast to Durban. The Tsitsikamma National Park is just amazing, that’s on the garden route and the natural wild forest is just amazing.

Inland places in the Eastern Cape like Hogsback are amazing too, not many foreign tourists go there, mainly germans if I remember :-). I believe Tolkien spent some time there and that place inspired some of his work.

Been many years since I was last there so I can't advise on specifics. Pnenty of B&Bs around though so take a look online or SA yellow pages for more.
Just remember that SA are WAY behind when it comes to the internet and I'd wager most places won't have their own website but rather choose to advertise using the yellow pages, etc.

Tsitsikamma national park was a great place to stop when I was last there, which was, um, 1984. They have chalets and camping grounds.

In Knysna, um, I think there was a Protea hotel on the waterfront. That was nice, but that's not going to be B&B price.
