The Fault in our Stars - 7/10 I stuck it on as I couldn't find anything else to watch. My God, do not watch if your feeling low. Two teenagers with cancer in love, you don't need to be Bergerac to figure out what happens.

On a serious note, why don't I fall in love like that!
Please tell me you've read the book. Much much better!
I switched the film off a few mins into it. Read the book after seeing the trailer and I really enjoyed it despite not being the target market for it. Might give the film another go, but just doesn't seem anywhere near as good as the book.
No I haven't read the book, had no knowledge of it till it popped up.

I did have a lump in my throat a few times it has to be said.
not read the book and knocked the film off, bit too much for the teenager

Just finished watching Kickass 2... Saw the first 20 mins or so a few days ago, finished the rest now.

Pretty good, quite dark. Need to watch it all in one go before I compare to the first one, which I've seen lots.

Solid 7.5 after first viewing.

Hoping to see Sin City 2 tomorrow/next week so watched the first one at work last night. I'd forgotten how great it was.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Loved it - I've had a colourful life so far where I've ended up doing some odd stuff - often feels like I'm bullstting when talking to some.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill for
Considerably worse than the first - but still very good. Particularly the scenes with Eva Green, as she is so sexy.
I did get confused at first though, not sure weather it was a prequel or sequel... But figured it was both, depending on what short story it focused on.

7/10

Lets be Cops
Actually better than I expected, decent characters and a FEW laughs here and there. I didn't like the love interest, but hey ho every film has one... Not because of the girl herself (she was lovely) but just because it was a little pointless.

Watched Get Carter. Really good gangster film from the 70's. Michael Caine was ace in it.

Captain America 2
More of the same, most of the plot points were signposted in advance. Solid performances, good effects, lots of things going boom.
I do question why he didn't get any help from his other friends though.

Better than the trailer.
Do NOT waste time or money watching this film!

No depth of character in any of them, utterly confused film that doesn't know if it's sci-fi, action, comedy or just a crock of st. I'm going with the latter.

A really good concept that's executed terribly. Watch porn for better story lines.

In between books now, so having a quick re-read of this, carrying on the rock & roll theme:

It's a hoot & a tragic tale rolled into one. They had it all & blew it spectacularly through the most appalling incompetence. If you were young in those days, it was a magic time & the stories inside are hilarious, a highlight being the vat man demanding 30k off the crooked bouncers via Factory as he knew full well the bouncers were a notorious Manchester gang. They told him to ps off & get it himself. He demurred.
Wrong thread?

The trailer put me off immediately the first time I saw it by revealing the film's premise is that humans only use 10% of their brains and that Lucy uses all of it.

The "10%" theory was debunked years ago. So I immediately filed the film under "junk science" and didn't bother any further.

the 10% thing was the most accurate thing in the whole movie!

you worry about that theory??? you want to see what they do with gravity, time, light, etc!

Viewing the world in straight lines like this is going to cause you to forego an awful lot of pleasure. Taking this logic to it's conclusion, you've ruled out Star Wars, 2001, The Shining, Lord of the rings, Avatar, Gravity, Santa Claus & the tooth fairy.

The whole point of fantastic stories (as in fantasy, as in not the actual real world) is to temporarily trade your disbelief in return for entertainment. In doing so, you enrich your soul, not necessarily your academic mind. Try it, you may like it.

But when you sit down for star wars you understand you are being asked to give up some ideas you hold to as "fact".....that wasn't the case in this pile of crap until, for example and for no reason at all, they decided to ignore gravity in the first 20 mins.

A film can go off and be something else....but it needs to be VERY good to do so. It can't start as a sc-fi/angry chick flick, and then go to Tom & Jerry.

As Above, So Below

I like the 'found footage' genre and this one was a good example, it didn't do anything new but I found that it being set in a claustrophobic environment added a lot to the film.

One scene in particular where a character got stuck in a tunnel actually made me feel a bit sick and as he started to panic, I genuinely panicked myself in my seat - I felt his claustrophobia, this has never happened to me before in a film, so credit where its due!

Thanks for the patronising and condescending reply, making false assumptions about me based on insufficient data. I expected no less from you. rolleyes

Er...really? In what way was that patronising? Surely the point of these boards is for open discussion of differing views. If you can't take that without getting instantly upset, then maybe this isn't for you?

I'm not getting upset. I was just pointing out that you made the rather sweeping assumption that, just because I chose not to see this film because its junk science, that I won't watch any non-factual film. That's all.

Anyway, let's not get into an argument over it. I think perhaps we each misunderstood the other? hippy
