You may have missed key piece of dialogue for example.

As a matter of interest were you doing something else (surfing the net for example) when you were watching it?

It's as I previously wrote, I was expecting more of a tie-in with MCU I think, and because that wasn't there, it was missing something.

As a stand-alone piece, it was probably very good.

Interstellar

Very, very, very good. The music was too loud in some instances though, it overpowered the speech which became very annoying.
Great cast, great script, great effects.

Definitely the modern day 2001: A Space Odyssey

9/10
Went to see this last night with the misses. (mistake! do not take your misses if she struggles with Quantum physics and Dimensions)

Quantum physics, black holes, time travel, 5th dimensions... Interstellar mind warp it is then.

Really well thought out film, Nolan really does make a good picture.

Another thumbs up for 'The Duellists' above.
Fantastic visuals which we come to expect from Ridley Scott.

Watched ' Dead Man's Shoes 'today.
Seen it before and didn't like it but seeing that the full movie was on YouTube, decided to give it another try as it had been mentioned in a recent conversation.
I found that its actually a very good film, truthfully tells the depression that realistically exists in Midlands towns and all the more remarkable when you find out it was written in 2 weeks and filmed in 3 on a very low budget by Shane Meadows.
You get drawn into the story and the concept that wrongs which happened a long time ago, might just come back to haunt you. A solid 8/10.

I really enjoyed it. Strongly recommend Tyrannosaur if you haven't seen it.

Only just got around to seeing Argo. I thought it was very, very well told. Really enjoyed it.

The Duellists.

On Netflix.

Set in Napoleonic France, one hussar officer inadvertently insults another one, who takes umbrage and whenever they subsequently meet tries to murder him, with dueling sword, cavalry sabre and pistol, in a series of extremely violent and realistic duels.

Ridley Scott's first film.

The Raid 2. Deliberately didn't read anything about this as I enjoyed the first one. Manic, insane, wildy implausible violent action. Worth a look and it doesn't matter if you haven't seen the first.

7 turbo drop kicks out of 10.

Interstellar at IMAX on Weds.

I really enjoyed it. Solid 8/8.5 for me.

They were giving out posters/prints at the end... Anyone else get one?

Off to see Hunger Games this evening.

I absolutely love Dead Man's Shoes, one of my favourite films and 10/10 imo.

The whole point of the film is missed by most, it really is NOT a revenge film...

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - very well made with superb CGI and soundtrack. A lot smarter than you average summer blockbuster as well where the line between good and bad guys isn't so clear cut. At first you may think it's just the evil humans out to kill those peaceful natives a la Avatar, but in this instance it's the Apes who start the war, since the dam was back up and working the humans would most likely have just left them alone otherwise. Only slight thing that bothered me was how the Apes kept switching from sign language to speech throughout the film.

Enjoyed Ender's Game far more than I expected. Good visuals and quite a clever concept (not so much the idea of using kids, but the idea of combatants sidelining morality and taking more risks because they think it's a sim, and especially how Graff deceived Ender to exploit his pure strategic thinking). The young actors were surprisingly convincing, the training felt a bit rushed but the story kept me interested; and the final battle was a feast for the eyes.
I watched it last night, and I too, enjoyed it more than I expected, it wasn't bad.

Caught Gone Girl before it bows out at the cinema, wasn't going to bother as I don't really rate Affleck at all but glad I did - best black comedy I've seen for years. Very dark, lots of glaring plot holes but leave your brain at the door and just enjoy the twists and turns and sheer bloody minded insanity.

Guardians of the Galaxy

I'm going to go against the reviews I've read to date. I didn't get it, nor did I understand the love for this film.

From what I'd read about it, I was expecting more of a tie-in with the Marvels Cinematic Universe (MCU) which I really like, but apart from a minor reference to The Collector, there wasn't any. There was also no "reveal" about the character's background which I was expecting, so on the whole it felt a bit like The Matrix 2 and 3 did when they failed to wrap up the story in a clever way.

As a stand-alone film, not referencing MCU it was OK but nothing more. Felt part-way between a kids' film and a proper sci-fi adventure.

I sound like a right miserable git but I can't give it any more - 4/10. I wouldn't recommend it, and I won't bother watching again.

I have no knowledge of the "MCU".

I thought it was bloody brilliant fun.

I haven't seen it yet, but have just pre-ordered the Bly Ray from Amazon - from what I have read, it sound's great fun. (I too couldn't give two hoots about 'MCU' or whatever...)

I can see where Watchman is coming from. I watched it last weekend and although it had all the ingredients I just didn't buy into it too much. Just kind of 'Meh' by the time it got to the end. But I was tired and it was late so maybe I wasn't doing it any justice. 5/10.
